Return of the 70 Nations to Paris to Condemn Israel Prophetic Fulfillment

“They have said: ‘Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Yisrael may be no more in remembrance.’ For they have consulted together with one consent; against Thee do they make a covenant.”Psalms 83:5-6 (The Israel Bible™)

High ranking officials from 70 nations of the world will gather in Paris on January 15th in an attempt to force Israel to accept a two-state solution with the Palestinian Authority. By so doing, they will be fulfilling a momentous Biblical prophecy foretold thousands of years ago.

When Israeli statesman Shimon Peres passed away in September, leaders and dignitaries from 70 nations gathered in Jerusalem to pay their last respects. The symbolism is no mere coincidence; the very same number of representatives will gather in Paris, but this time to deny the Jewish connection to the Land of Israel.

“Everyone knows already what the purpose of the conference is: it will be an all-out hatefest against Israel,” Rabbi Avraham Arieh Trugman, director of Ohr Chadash Torah Institute, told Breaking Israel News. “What’s interesting is that it isn’t just one or two enemies with a specific grudge, like the Arabs or the Nazis. It is 70 nations, which in Torah terms, means [symbolically] all of the nations,” explained Rabbi Trugman.

Rabbi Shimon Apisdorf, a prominent Jewish educator and bestselling author, told Breaking Israel News that seeing 70 nations written in the headlines caught his attention.

“There is no question that the aspect of specifically 70 nations gathering is significant, the point being Israel is not one of them,” said Rabbi Apisdorf, citing the book of Numbers.

Lo, it is a people that shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations.Numbers 23:9

“We are fundamentally different,” stated Rabbi Apisdorf. “And as a light unto the nations, we are supposed to be separate and different.”

Rabbi Trugman understood a different message in the gathering of the 70 countries.

“There is no doubt this is a fulfillment of the prophecies that in the end of days, all the nations will come out against Israel,” noted the rabbi. He quoted the commentary of Rabbi Shlomo Yitzchaki, an 11th century French commentator known by the acronym ‘Rashi’, on the first verse in the book of Genesis.

“1,000 years ago, Rashi said that in the future, the nations of the world will come and say we stole the Land of Israel. This is precisely what we are seeing now,” Rabbi Trugman said. “The majority of the nations say we have no claim to Israel, and the rest say we only have a claim to a small section of Israel.”

“Rashi told us how to answer this claim,” said Rabbi Trugman. “We need to remind them that the same God who created the heaven and earth gave it to them, and then he took it from them and gave it to us.”

The concept of 70 nations has its source in the 70 grandsons of Noah listed in the Bible.

These three were the sons of Noach, and of these was the whole earth overspread. Genesis 9:19

According to Bereshit Rabbah, a collection of homiletical teachings compiled around 400 CE, each nation is appointed an angel, except for Israel, which is protected by God Himself. According to Midrash Tanchuma, homiletical teachings believed to have been compiled around 500 CE, Jacob’s vision was of these national angels ascending and descending a ladder, determining the fortune of their nations.

And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven; and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.Genesis 28:12

Jacob’s vision is interpreted as a message that the nation of Israel was no longer part of this natural process. Though other nations will rise and fall, eventually disappearing into the sands of time, Israel will never disappear.

The concept of 70 nations also appears in reference to the 70 oxen offered in the Temple throughout Sukkot (the feast of the tabernacles) which the Talmud (Sukkah 55b) teaches are for the merit of the 70 nations.

In the wake of the recent United Nations Security Council resolution 2334 declaring Jewish housing in Judea, Samaria and East Jerusalem to be illegal, the outcome of the Paris conference seems certain. A two-state solution would call for Israel to relinquish territories conquered in the 1967 Six-Day War, and subsequently create a Palestinian State. This would include establishing a Palestinian capital in East Jerusalem, thereby removing the Kotel (Western Wall) and the Temple Mount from Jewish control.

It is unclear whether the 800,000 Jews living over the 1949 Armistice Lines, comprising approximately 13 percent of Israel’s Jewish population, will be required to relocate, as they were when the Israeli government dismantled the communities of Gush Katif in the Gaza Strip in 2005.

Even if the 70 nations at the conference decide in favor of the two-state solution it is unclear how this plan will be practically implemented. On January 20, five days after the conference is set to take place, Donald Trump will take the seat in Oval Office, and he has already made his opinion clear that, like Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, he believes the only solution to be face-to-face negotiations without pre-conditions between the Israelis and Palestinians.

Keep in mind that this is now the Hebrew year 5777 as we watch this amazing event unfold. To give all of us — including me — an idea of how prophetically important are the numbers in this Hebrew year’s date, let me share some information that I found while searching online for the significance of three 7s in a row …

The number 777 is attributed to our God and Father, YaHWeH, for many reasons. It is also attributed to His Father/Son Relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ, Israel’s Messiah and our Saviour. Written in Hebrew, “YHWH in the YESHUA Messiah”, gives the number 777: “Yod, He, Vaw, He, beth, yod, shin, vaw, ayin, he, mem, shin, yod and heth” (10+5+6+5+2+10+300+6+70+5+40+300+10+8 = 777). If that in itself weren’t awesome enough, also in Hebrew, “YESHUA saves”, gives 777 as well: “Yod, shin, vaw, ayin, he, vaw, shin, yod and ayin” (10+300+6+70+5+6+300+10+70 = 777). The Name “YaHWeH” written in Hebrew appears as 777 =

If you have been following my blog, you probably know that I do not believe in the pre-tribulation rapture theory, because after being completely sold out on it for many months in the mid-1990’s, I discovered another theory that is much more logical. It is based on (what I call) the timeline that Jesus gave, which Matthew recorded in his gospel.

Please read it for yourself (then keep reading through to the end of my post …

As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?”

Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.

“Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. 10 At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11 and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. 12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13 but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

15 “So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’ spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand— 16 then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17 Let no one on the housetop go down to take anything out of the house. 18 Let no one in the field go back to get their cloak. 19 How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! 20 Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath. 21 For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again.

22 “If  those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened. 23 At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘There he is!’ do not believe it. 24 For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. See I have told you ahead of time.

26 So if anyone tells you, ‘There he is, out in the wilderness,’ do not go out; or, ‘Here he is, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. 27 For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 28 Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather.

29 “Immediately after the distress of those days

“‘the sun will be darkened,
    and the moon will not give its light;
the stars will fall from the sky,
and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’

30 “Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. 31 And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call [check out the prophecy connection in 1 Thessalonians 4:16: “For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.”], and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.

32 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 33 Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door. 34 Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

36 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 37 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 40 Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left.

42 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.

43 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. 44 So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.

45 “Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time? 46 It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns. (Matthew 24: 3-45, New International Version)

Notice the text highlighted in GREEN — verses 36 to 41.

Pre-tribulation rapture theorists take these verses out of context and refer to them in combination with 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17  plus Revelation 4:1, where John writes: “After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven. And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, ‘Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.’”

As you can see, the text highlighted in green comes AFTER verses 3-31 in Matthew 24. Pretribulationists offer the explantion that those words were only meant for a Jewish audience, not for gentile believers.

I submit to you that is not the case.

If we take Jesus’ words in order, like a timeline, we can see that false messiah claims, wars and rumors of wars, nations and kingdoms rising up against each other creating bloodshed, famines and earthquakes have happened repeatedly since Jesus prophesied these events, and they continue to happen today.

Likewise, as mentioned in verses 9-12, believers have been, and are now being, persecuted (many to the point of death without denying their Lord) by non-believers or ignorant individuals who wickedly betray and hate each other without understanding the true message of Christ.

People of ALL races and genders are saying that they believe in Jesus, but they don’t understand that the “love” that they felt for Him when they first believed has “grown cold.” The love of our Savior Jesus is self-denying, putting our Father God first. We see Christians refusing to deny Him and getting their throats slit by unbelievers…. Just as Jesus implied would happen.

Verse 14 foretells: “… this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.Unless I’ve missed something in the news, the gospel of eternal life through belief in Jesus Christ has not yet reached ALL nations. Therefore “the end” is still a ways off.

Now, read verse 15 with me …

15 “So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’ spoken of through the prophet Daniel —let the reader understand—”

“Let the reader understand –” I (and others) believe that means it’s important to check back in the Book of Daniel to see what he said about the abomination that causes desolation, standing in the holy place. Again, many “scholars and prophecy pros” have a LONG explanation for this that leads to their conclusion about what Jesus said. And some will point to historical documentation, saying that this has already happened….

Antiochus IV Epiphanes was the eighth in a succession of twenty-six kings who ruled from 175—164 BC over the Syrian section of Alexander’s empire…. In the spring of 168 B.C., the armies of the Syrian king had arrived within four miles of the great city of Alexandria to compel the pharaohs to surrender. But the Egyptians had appealed to Rome for assistance….

After being humiliated and forced to leave Egypt, Antiochus’s vengeance was quickly turned upon Jerusalem. He killed over eighty thousand men, women, and children and sold forty thousand into slavery (2 Macc. v. 5-14). The holy place [also known as the holy Temple] was robbed of its treasures and the temple was dedicated to Jupiter Olympus. The temple was defiled by offering a sow upon the altar and scattering its juice over all the sanctuary and vessels. He substituted the Jewish feasts with the drunken revelry of Bacchanalia, forcing the Jews to worship Bacchus, the god of pleasure and wine. The licentious festival of Saturnalia, the worship of Saturn, was also enforced upon the inhabitants.

He forbade the reading of the Holy Scriptures and the tradition of circumcision. Throwing them headlong with their infants off of the highest wall in Jerusalem, Antiochus killed two mothers who had circumcised their children in defiance of the law. He also cut out the tongues of a mother’s seven sons and after that had each of them roasted alive on a flat iron (2 Macc. vii. 3-5). Then the mother herself was murdered.  (Source: http://www.prophecyforum.com/antiochus.html)

Yes, just as described by Daniel (and the Macabees), this prophecy has been historically fulfilled. HOWEVER, God’s Word often has multiple layers of meaning, and — according to Jesus — this prophecy will come to pass A SECOND TIME in the future. The actions of Antiochus Epiphanes IV happened BEFORE Jesus spoke to His closest disciples concerning this event! Jesus foretold that someone even worse will repeat these detestable deeds IN THE FUTURE.

Now, let’s add to what we’ve learned from history:

1.  Jesus said to examine Daniel’s writings — and learn from Jewish history. Anyone who reads His words — no matter what period in world history — is urged to “understand.”

2. Jesus said, “THEN let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Let no one on the housetop go down to take anything out of the house. Let no one in the field go back to get their cloak. How dreadful it will be in those daysFor THEN there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again.” Notice Jesus uses future tense!

3. Jesus said that the Jewish temple would be completely destroyed (verses 1-2). And within 4 decades of that prophecy, THE TEMPLE WAS DESTROYED by Roman legions!

4. “The holy place” (a.k.a the Jewish temple) HAS NOT YET BEEN REBUILT!

5. Jesus said that — according to the prophet Daniel — Daniel 9:27 “He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven.’ In the middle of the ‘seven’[seven years] he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And at the temple [holy place] he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him.” (I’m still watching for that 7-year covenant with many.)

6. Jesus said, false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 25 See, I have told you ahead of time.”

7. Jesus said, “THEN will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. 31 And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.”

I ask you to consider that THIS describes the rapture of the saints detailed by Paul in 1 Thessalonians 4 …

13 Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. 14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. 15 According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.

I realize that this post has been unusually long. But we have reached the point of NOW…. Now think back to the article at the beginning.

REMEMBER: Jewish rabbis believe that the number 70 represents ALL of the nations. On January 15th, VIPs from every nation EXCEPT ISRAEL will gather in Paris, France to pass judgment on whether or not a “two-state-solution” is the answer for resolving decades of devastating conflict in the Middle East.

There will be no consideration of what the Lord God of Israel has written in Hebrew scriptures concerning the land in question — unless one of Israel’s allies bring it up.

My bet is that Almighty God is NOT going to be happy if they decide to divide His land that He promised to Abraham, Isaac and ISRAEL way back when.

Let’s keep watching together to see how this all plays out …

11 The Lord thunders at the head of his army;
his forces are beyond number,
and mighty is the army that obeys his command.
The day of the Lord is great;
    it is dreadful.
    Who can endure it?

12 “Even now,” declares the Lord,
“return to me with all your heart.”

3:1“In those days and at that time,
when I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem,
I will gather all nations
and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat.
There I will put them on trial
for what they did to my inheritance, my people Israel,
because they scattered my people among the nations
    and divided up my land.

14 Multitudes, multitudes
    in the valley of decision!
For the day of the Lord is near
    in the valley of decision.
15 The sun and moon will be darkened,
and the stars no longer shine.
16 The Lord will roar from Zion
    and thunder from Jerusalem;
the earth and the heavens will tremble.
But the Lord will be a refuge for his people,
a stronghold for the people of Israel.”

(Joel 2:11-12, 3:1-16, NIV)

2017 … Ready or Not!

Hello Prophecy Connections readers! May the presence of God be with you as 2017 unfolds and flags representing countries around the world unfurl to begin a new year. Actually this date is for those who follow the Gregorian calendar. Here are some interesting facts about that dating system from http://www.history.com/news/6-things-you-may-not-know-about-the-gregorian-calendar

1. The original goal of the Gregorian calendar was to change the date of Easter.
In 1582, when Pope Gregory XIII introduced his Gregorian calendar, Europe adhered to the Julian calendar, first implemented by Julius Caesar in 46 B.C. Since the Roman emperor’s system miscalculated the length of the solar year by 11 minutes, the calendar had since fallen out of sync with the seasons. This concerned Gregory because it meant that Easter, traditionally observed on March 21, fell further away from the spring equinox with each passing year.

2. Leap years don’t really occur every four years in the Gregorian calendar.
The Julian calendar included an extra day in February every four years. But Aloysus Lilius, the Italian scientist who developed the system Pope Gregory would unveil in 1582, realized that the addition of so many days made the calendar slightly too long. He devised a variation that adds leap days in years divisible by four, unless the year is also divisible by 100. If the year is also divisible by 400, a leap day is added regardless. While this formula may sound confusing, it did resolve the lag created by Caesar’s earlier scheme—almost.

3. The Gregorian calendar differs from the solar year by 26 seconds per year.
Despite Lilius’ ingenious method for syncing the calendar with the seasons, his system is still off by 26 seconds. As a result, in the years since Gregory introduced his calendar in 1582, a discrepancy of several hours has arisen. By the year 4909, the Gregorian calendar will be a full day ahead of the solar year.

4. Some Protestants viewed the Gregorian calendar as a Catholic plot.
Though Pope Gregory’s papal bull reforming the calendar had no power beyond the Catholic Church, Catholic countries—including Spain, Portugal and Italy—swiftly adopted the new system for their civil affairs. European Protestants, however, largely rejected the change because of its ties to the papacy, fearing it was an attempt to silence their movement. It wasn’t until 1700 that Protestant Germany switched over, and England held out until 1752. Orthodox countries clung to the Julian calendar until even later, and their national churches have never embraced Gregory’s reforms.

5. Britain’s adoption of the Gregorian calendar sparked riots and protest—maybe.
According to some accounts, English citizens did not react kindly after an act of Parliament advanced the calendar overnight from September 2 to September 14, 1752. Rioters supposedly took to the streets, demanding that the government “give us our 11 days.” However, most historians now believe that these protests never occurred or were greatly exaggerated. On the other side of the Atlantic, meanwhile, Benjamin Franklin welcomed the change, writing, “It is pleasant for an old man to be able to go to bed on September 2, and not have to get up until September 14.”

6. Before the Gregorian calendar’s adoption, the English new year began on March 25, or Lady Day.
Julius Caesar’s calendar reform of 46 B.C. instituted January 1 as the first of the year. During the Middle Ages, however, European countries replaced it with days that carried greater religious significance, such as December 25 (the anniversary of Jesus’ birth) and March 25 (the Feast of the Annunciation). The latter, known as Lady Day because it celebrates the Virgin Mary, marked the beginning of the year in Britain until January 1, 1752.

Another amazing fact is that, in contrast to calendars created throughout history by humans, GOD’S CALENDAR HAS NOT CHANGED. Consider this information from http://www.bible-history.com/jewishyear/jewishyear_heart-message.html

[Red highlights are mine. — PY]

God is a stickler on timing, events, and their meaning. His calendar is marked in the stars, kept by the moon, observed by the sun, and ordered in the rotation of the earth. All of his important dates are written in advance, his feasts, celebrations, Sabbaths and epoch changing events.

“And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:” (Dan 2:21)

“Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.” (Mat. 2:2)

“The God who made the world and all things in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands; nor is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives to all people life and breath and all things; and He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation, that they would seek God, if perhaps they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and exist, as even some of your own poets have said, `For we also are His children. (Acts 17:24-28)

He calls us to remember His past appointments. He knew the Hebrews would be in bondage for 400 years in Egypt, and the precise day His deliverer Moses would stand before Pharaoh, demanding that he let God’s people go. He let Daniel peek at His appointment book to see the great world empires that would arrive, each in it’s own season to rule the earth and govern it’s people. (Dan. 2) He appointed 70 weeks of years upon the Jewish nation divided into precise sequences, that foretold the rebuilding of Jerusalem, the death of Messiah, and the coming of anti-christ. He planned for the “fullness of times”, (Gal. 4:4) when His Son would manifest to the world, while the Jewish religious leaders were ripe with hardness of heart, during the height of the Roman Empire, with it’s technology, justice, roadways, culture and language.

What I find comforting, is that the Lord, has a calendar, not just for Israel and the nations, but for each of us. He knows your comings and goings, your rising up, and sitting down. He has special surprises planned for you, even still. Even after disappointments, devastations, and life changing seasons. Have you failed yourself? God will not fail you. Have you been lost in unbearable anguish? God grieves with you. Perhaps you’ve been hardened in religion, burned out and left empty, searching for that early passion which seems so unreachable now. God has a new beginning on His calendar for you.

God knew there would be a woman waiting at the well at midday in Samaria, who needed relief from the shame that she felt for so many years. He knew there would be a tax collector named Zaccheus who would respond to the offer of fellowship and grace from the “Son of man.” He knew a man named Simon would deny Him three times in His greatest hour of need, but called Him anyway, because loving grace would transform him into Peter the rock. He came to seek and save that which was lost. And aren’t we all lost? Especially those of us with spiritual pride, who claim, “we see”. (John 9:41)

God has a calendar for the Jewish year, the nations, and for you. Are there any unfulfilled promises? They are still there, waiting activation, waiting pursuit, written on His calendar, and guarded by His sovereignty. They remain with His gifts and callings that are irrevocable. (Rom. 11:29) You’re days are carefully watched over, you’re never far from His thoughts, and never removed out of His plans. Pursue Him with renewed boldness and watch His calendar come alive with your divine destiny, full of His grace and good news… for you and all those He’s called you to touch.

I love what the author pointed out concerning God’s calendar as it relates to me and YOU!

The current year on God’s calendar is 5777. It began on October 2, 2016, the eve of Rosh Hashanah — the Jewish New Year. It will end on the eve of Rosh Hashana, September 20, 2017. Some believe it will have prophetic significance because of God’s emphasis on the numbers 3 and 7. We shall see as we continue to WATCH FOR PROPHECY CONNECTIONS …

Israelis leaders urge Jews to READ THE ENTIRE BIBLE!

God is moving …

Have you heard that Israeli leaders are urging Jews to read through the entire Bible, verse by verse, chapter by chapter? Amazing, but true. Here’s the latest.

netanyahu-biblestudyoct2016

(Central Israel) — You probably haven’t heard this in the mainstream media, but Israel’s most senior leaders are urging the Jewish people to read through the Bible, the whole Bible, verse by verse, chapter by chapter.

Can you imagine President Obama or any other U.S. leader calling on American people to read through the Bible? Neither can I.

Given the general trend here in Israel towards secularization, this is quite a surprising yet thoroughly encouraging development. I’m sure many of you are skeptical, but it really is true. Here’s the latest.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu kicked off the new school year here by encouraging children to rediscover the Word of God and Biblical roots of their Jewish heritage.

“First of all, the study of the Bible,” he said in August. “Knowledge is a critical word. We want to give it [knowledge of the Scriptures] to every child in Israel, Jews and non-Jews as one, religious and secular. This is the basis of the new world, and the basis of Israel as a strong nation in the world.”

Last week, the prime minister and his wife, Sara, hosted another in a series of occasional Bible study groups at their official residence. They discussed — among other things — the Biblical connection Jews have to the Temple Mount, despite a recent U.N. vote denying Jews have any such connection.

The Netanyahus organized their first home Bible study group in December 2011, as I reported at the time. In so doing, they carried on a tradition first begun by David Ben Gurion and later by Menachem Begin but rarely repeated by other Israeli premiers. Their stated goal was to set an example for the nation and to “perpetuate a love of the Bible.” [See here and here for coverage of other Bible studies they have held.]

Meanwhile, Israeli President Reuven Rivlin and several government officials have launched something they call the “929 Initiative.”

This is a wonderful and worthy effort to encourage all Israelis — even the most secular and non-religious among us — to read one chapter of the Jewish Scriptures a day, every day, until they have read all 929 chapters.

Rivlin and his colleagues kicked off the $12 million initiative in December 2014. Since then, they have been encouraging Israelis to continue reading verse by verse, chapter by chapter through the full Hebrew Bible or “Tanakh” until everyone finishes together in the summer of 2018 for the 70th anniversary of the prophetic rebirth of the Jewish State.

There is a pretty impressive and sophisticated website dedicated to the project, with Israelis of all kinds, from a wide variety of backgrounds, writing articles on what they think about the Bible verses they are reading. There is also an app that helps Israelis remember what chapter they’re supposed to read each day and help them mark their progress.

Here are several article about the initiative. I commend them to your attention.

I especially wanted to bring this all to your attention as we celebrate Sukkot, or the Feast of Tabernacles (aka, “Feast of Booths”). Why? Because in the Torah, Moses commanded the people to read through all the Scriptures in their entirety every seven years. Sadly, this is a commandment many if not most of my fellow Jews have forgotten, or never were aware of in the first place.

10 Then Moses commanded them, saying, “At the end of every seven years, at the time of the year of remission of debts, at the Feast of Booths, 11 when all Israel comes to appear before the Lord your God at the place which He will choose, you shall read this law in front of all Israel in their hearing. 12 Assemble the people, the men and the women and children and [a]the alien who is in your [b]town, so that they may hear and learn and fear the Lord your God, and be careful to observe all the words of this law. (Deuteronomy 31:10-12)

Some of my favorite stories in the Bible are when King Josiah called the nation of Judah together to hear the Word of the Lord read to them in its entirety, and when Ezra and the priests read the entire Bible to the nation of Israel after their return to the Land from Babylonian and Persian captivity.

Several years ago, we organized an Epicenter conference with the theme, “The Power of The Word.” Several of the speakers taught on this largely forgotten history of Jewish leaders calling the nation back to the Scriptures — if you’re interested in watching the videos of those and other messages, please click here.

I’m grateful to Netanyahu and Rivlin and to the other Israeli leaders who are calling our people back to reading the Bible cover to cover. Will you join me in praying that more Jews (and Gentiles) heed their call? Thanks so much, and Chag Same’ach — happy holidays from Israel!

“I will show the holiness of my great Name.” — The Lord God

This morning I was asking the Lord to direct me during my quiet time with Him. He reminded me of two things in particular. First, what we see going on in the world is evidence of the conflict that is currently taking place in the spiritual realm. We must keep that at the forefront of our thoughts when trying to analyze stories and details of events that are reported by the media (especially the mainstream media).

The prophet Daniel wrote during the years when a majority of the people of Israel were exiled from Jerusalem by the Lord God as punishment for not obeying His Shemitah laws. Here is his testimony of what he saw in a vision concerning an angelic being who spoke to him and pulled back the veil that keeps humans from seeing what’s continually happening in the spiritual realm. Prayerfully consider Daniel’s account of the experience …

Daniel 10:7 “I, Daniel, was the only one who saw the vision; those who were with me did not see it, but such terror overwhelmed them that they fled and hid themselves…. 11 He said, “Daniel, you who are highly esteemed, consider carefully the words I am about to speak to you, and stand up, for I have now been sent to you.” And when he said this to me, I stood up trembling.

12 Then he continued, “Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them. 13 But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the king of Persia. 14 Now I have come to explain to you what will happen to your people in the future, for the vision concerns a time yet to come.”…

20 So he said, “Do you know why I have come to you? Soon I will return to fight against the prince of Persia, and when I go, the prince of Greece will come; 21 but first I will tell you what is written in the Book of Truth. (No one supports me against them except Michael, your prince. 11 And in the first year of Darius the Mede, I took my stand to support and protect him.)

Ordinarily, I don’t like to interpret Scripture for others, but we need to see clearly that these verses give a glimpse into the supernatural dimension of powerful angels — both good and evil — and their influence on our physical world. In my opinion, we can gather several truths from these verses:

  1. These powerful angelic beings are referred to as “chief princes.”
  2. God sends tasks certain angels with defending ISRAEL against evil angelic beings, also called “princes.”
  3. Michael is the chief prince who protects and defends ISRAEL.
  4. The prince of Persia is an evil angelic being (because an angel of God is fighting against him). PERSIA WAS THE NAME FOR ANCIENT IRAN!
  5. We cannot be sure whether the “prince of Greece” is good or evil. Perhaps an in depth study of history might reveal that.
  6. The chief angels lend support each other.
  7. Sincere prayer from a humble heart gets God’s attention!

Second, as I was wondering about the U.N.’s sudden aggression toward ISRAEL and JERUSALEM (Link: http://www.wnd.com/2016/10/u-n-body-votes-temple-mount-no-longer-jewish/), the Holy Spirit directed me to Ezekiel 36, where the Lord’s voice can be heard through His servant Ezekiel. Hear the words of the LORD:

2 “‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: The enemy said of you [ISRAEL], “Aha! The ancient heights have become our possession.” … Because they ravaged and crushed you from every side so that you became the possession of the rest of the nations and the object of people’s malicious talk and slander, therefore, mountains of Israel This is what the Sovereign Lord says to the mountains and hills, to the ravines and valleys, to the desolate ruins and the deserted towns that have been plundered and ridiculed by the rest of the nations around youI speak in my jealous wrath because you have suffered the scorn of the nations. Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I swear with uplifted hand that the nations around you will also suffer scorn.

“… The towns will be inhabited and the ruins rebuilt. 11 I will increase the number of people and animals living on you, and they will be fruitful and become numerous. I will settle people on you as in the past and will make you prosper more than before. Then you will know that I am the Lord. 12 I will cause people, my people Israel, to live on you. They will possess you, and you will be their inheritance …

“Therefore say to the Israelites, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: It is not for your sake, people of Israel, that I am going to do these things, but for the sake of my holy name, which you have profaned among the nations where you have gone. 23 I will show the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, the name you have profaned among them. Then the nations will know that I am the Lord, declares the Sovereign Lord, when I am proved holy through you before their eyes.'”

As we get ready to face another week in this troubled world, I encourage you to read these verses multiple times and meditate on them. Let’s wait on Him together as we continue to watch and pray!
