FOCUS: “How is an ancient pattern and template of judgment and warning actually manifested on American soil?” — Rabbi Jonathan Cahn
The Harbingers (manifested in America beginning with the 9/11 terrorist attacks on American soil)
The Pattern: Isaiah 9:9-10 lays out the pattern and progression of warnings that become more severe as a nation grows deaf to the voice of God:
“All the people will know it—
Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria—
who say with pride
and arrogance of heart,
10 “The bricks have fallen down,
but we will rebuild with dressed stone;
the sycamore [fig] trees have been felled,
but we will replace them with cedars.”
The pattern includes: the Breach, the Terrorist, the Bricks, the Tower, and the Gazit Stone. Let’s look at each one and compare the signs that appeared in ancient Israel with those that have manifested in America since 9/11/2001…
“God’s covenant with Israel included the promise of protection from threats to its safety, security, and existence. This hedge of protection, however, came with a condition — obedience to God’s will.… In response to the sins of the northern kingdom [Israel — 10 tribes], He sent prophets like Elijah, Elisha, Hosea, and Amos. Responding to the trespasses of Judah [the southern kingdom of Judah and Benjamin], He sent prophets like Isaiah and Jeremiah with the same message of warning and repentance…. It was only when the words of both Moses and the prophets fell on deaf ears — when there was no other recourse — that God began to move against the nation’s hedge of protection…. In 732 BC God permitted … the king of Assyria to sack the northern kingdom of Israel. This was a warning, a wakeup call, a foreshadow of what would befall the nation years later if it did not turn back. The same pattern can be seen in the fall and destruction of the southern kingdom of Judah.” [Judah was invaded by the Babylonians in 605 BC, and a majority of its inhabitants were taken to Babylon for 70 years.]
“By the late twentieth century, with prayer removed from the nation’s public schools, expressions of faith increasingly banned from the public square, and revivals less frequent or powerful, America had sunk even further into moral and spiritual decline … On September 11, 2001, America’s hedge of protection was breached. Though many were afraid to say so, across the land many saw it as a wake-up call. There was even an instinctive response throughout the nation to flock to houses of worship…. Without repentance, without a change in course, there can be no revival of hope. And in the months and years after 9/11, America largely returned to business as usual.“
Israel: The terrorists who breached the northern kingdom’s hedge of protection were from the nation of Assyria (had conquered much of the Middle East by 732 BC). They literally struck fear into the hearts of the people using calculated psychological warfare. Iraq was the very land of ancient Assyria.
America: The terrorists who breached America’s defenses on 9/11 (and currently continue to breach our defenses) were based in the territory that once made up ancient Assyria, including the cities of Mosul and Nineveh — the ancient capital of Assyria!
Israel: In response to the breach in their hedge of protection, ancient Israel vowed to rebuild with stronger materials and to plant heartier trees that could not be easily cut down. The nation defiantly insisted on continuing on course, without God’s help — and to become even stronger than before.
America: In response to the breach America’s security on 9/11, numerous “vows” of defiance were spoken by individuals in authority, from governors to mayors to the president of the United States!
- Senate majority leader, Tom Daschle (the highest representative of the highest legislative body) was representing the entire nation when he unwittingly said, on September 12, 2001, “I know that there is only the smallest measure of inspiration that can be taken from this devastation, but there is a passage in the Bible from Isaiah that I think speaks to all of us at times like this …’The bricks have fallen down, but we will rebuild with dressed stone; the sycamore [fig] trees have been felled, but we will replace them with cedars.’ That is what we will do.“ (He didn’t realize he was reading words that expressed ancient Israel’s defiance!)
THE BRICKS (“The bricks have fallen down”):
Israel: After breaching Israel’s divine hedge of protection, Assyrian terrorists wrought serious physical damage, as evidenced by heaps of bricks from collapsed structures. Those who remained in the land vowed to replace the fallen bricks with hewn stone — quarried, chiseled, and carved out of mountain rock — a symbol of human strength and greatness.
America: After breaching America’s divine hedge of protection, Assyrian terrorists wrought serious physical damage, as evidenced by heaps of bricks from the collapsed Twin Towers! The first act of America’s rebuilding was to cut out of a mountain, in upper state New York, a massive rectangular block of stone and bring it to the ground where America’s bricks had fallen: “Ground Zero.”
- Governor George Pataki: “Today, we, the heirs of that revolutionary spirit of defiance, lay this cornerstone.”
THE TOWER (“but we will rebuild”) :
Israel: “The bricks have fallen, but we will rebuild” … Any new construction would represent the embrace of a spirit of defiance to build bigger and stronger.
America: On September 11th, the Twin Towers fell. Following that event, numerous authority figures promised Americans that “we” would rebuild bigger and stronger!
THE SYCAMORE (“The sycamores have been felled”):
Israel: The uprooting of their sycamores was a sign to Israel of uprooting and death. It was a sign of national judgment. The Hebrew sycamore — fig-mulberry in the Greek — was endemic to Israel.
America: There is a western sycamore that is endemic to America. On 9/11, there was a tree growing at the corner of Ground Zero — a sycamore. A shock wave and a steel beam went forth from the falling north tower and struck down the tree. The sycamore had fallen! As Israel’s sycamore trees became a sign of national judgment, the sycamore that fell on 9/11 also became a symbol known as the “Sycamore of Ground Zero.”
NOTE: The tree and its roots were put on display in NYC! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a38MQY-wNdk)
THE CEDAR (“but we will replace them with cedars”):
Israel: By replacing the weak, fallen trees with stronger cedar tree (a cone-bearing evergreen), the Israelites were expressing their spirit of defiance.
America: The felled sycamore tree at Ground Zero was removed. But two years later, a cone-bearing evergreen tree — the ancient tree of defiance — was lowered by crane into the exact spot where the “Sycamore of Ground Zero” had stood. The highly publicized, tree of defiance was named, “The Ground Zero Tree of Hope.”
NOTE: The new tree dithered and died in 2014! (http://www.wnd.com/2014/08/harbinger-author-says-loss-of-tree-of-hope-a-warning/)
Next we’ll look at the final two warnings that were examined in The Harbinger — THE UTTERANCE and THE PROPHECY.
