WHY the third Jewish Temple MUST be built!

Yesterday I posted an amazing article concerning fulfilled prophecy. In case you missed it …

Sanhedrin Rules Prophesied Return Of Jews To Israel Has Been Fulfilled!

News Image

By Tom Olago October 05, 2016

The Jewish people are about to restore and commemorate an ordinance that has been dormant for about 2000 years – almost as far back as the days when Jesus Christ walked the earth. This New Year’s celebration, or Rosh HaShanah, will include the recitation of the Jubilee year-counting mitzvah or Biblical commandment.

In attempting to elucidate the importance of this simple ceremony, Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz of Breaking Israel News quoted the following scripture: “And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a Jubilee unto you” (Leviticus 25:10; The Israel Bible).

Berkowitz explained that counting the Jubilee is a simple mitzvah, reciting just a few lines, but performing this mitzvah is a declaration that the prophesied return of the Jews to Israel has been fulfilled, thereby establishing a basis for the rebuilding of the Jewish Temple….

So now we must broach the question: WHY must the Jewish Temple be rebuilt?

There are many thoughts on this. But here is WHAT JESUS SAID, recorded by the gospel writer Matthew …

[Setting the scene] Jesus left the temple and was walking away when his disciples came up to him to call his attention to its buildings.

Do you see all these things?”
he asked. “Truly I tell you, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.” [This prophecy was as fulfilled in 70 A.D.,approximately 40 years after Jesus was crucified, when Roman armies led by Titus completely destroyed the second temple and burned it to the ground to retrieve the gold that had decorated the interior.)

[Later …] “As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. ‘Tell us,’ they said, ‘when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?’

Jesus answered:Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, “I am the Messiah,” and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.  All these are the beginning of birth pains.’“… [Jesus went on to say that wickedness would increase, his followers would be hated, persecuted and killed, believers would betray their faith and each other. But he promised that those who stand firm “to the end” would be saved.]

[Then Jesus gave some specifics to watch for …] “So when you see standing in the holy place [for the Jews, the ‘Holy Place’ was their temple] the abomination that causes desolation,’ spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand [Daniel 9:27*] then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains…. For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again.

“If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened. [Jesus gave this  further warning …] At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘There he is!’ do not believe it. For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. See, I have told you ahead of time.'”…

TIME OUT … By referring to a prophecy given to Daniel, Jesus is challenging modern believers to DIG DEEPER! Think about it.  Just after he has foretold that the Jewish Temple will be destroyed — AND IT WAS — he says to his disciples: “when you see standing in the holy place.” … What? That seems like a contradiction, right?

*Let’s look at what the prophet Daniel wrote: “He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven’ [or ‘week’ = 7 years]. In the middle of the ‘seven’ he will put an end to sacrifice and offering [by the Law of Moses, this can  only happen in the temple (or tabernacle)].  And at the temple [or ‘wing’] he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him.”

I’m not going to get into all the theology and speculation that is swirling around in the scholarly communities. My point is: Daniel’s prophecy declares that something deplorable WILL TAKE PLACE IN THE TEMPLE … but there is NO TEMPLE! Jesus declared that Daniel was right when he wrote about “the abomination that causes desolation.” SO we can be sure that the prophecy WILL be fulfilled.

Therefore, we can be certain that the Jewish Temple must be rebuilt! Since so many people are absolutely dead-set that the Temple will NOT be rebuilt on the Temple Mount, and with violence being threatened daily over who may claim ownership of that invaluable piece of real estate, the Sanhedrin members have done a very dangerous thing by “performing this mitzvah [as] a declaration that the prophesied return of the Jews to Israel has been fulfilled, thereby establishing a basis for the rebuilding of the Jewish Temple.”

Wait a minute … Jesus’ “timeline” is not yet finished:

[He goes on to foretell this …]Immediately after the distress of those days

“‘the sun will be darkened,
    and the moon will not give its light;
the stars will fall from the sky,
and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’ [Prophesied by Isaiah, Joel and others.]

“‘ Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.'”

In my mind — which is considered apostate by many — these verses tell us “ahead of time that the temple MUST be rebuilt BEFORE Jesus sends his angels to gather his elect. I think of myself as among the “elect,” so I’m preparing for that which Jesus foretold would be coming upon “the generation” that witnesses what was foretold: a third temple AND an “abomination that causes desolation” standing it.

Keep watching …

Do you know about the Final Peace Accord?

Final Peace Accord To Be Forced Upon Israel This Fall?

News Image

By Kade Hawkins

April 28, 2016

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has decided it is better to risk the wrath of his own supporters than to lose French and International support for action against Israel before the UN.

For several weeks, anticipation had been building in expectation of Abbas trying to secure a UN Security Council resolution on April 22nd condemning and declaring as illegal the ongoing construction in Israeli West Bank communities.

Palestinian diplomats continued to assure Western diplomats and the international media that the demand for a vote on the Palestinian resolution was not in question. However, this was clearly not the case and the confusion within Abbas’ own party was demonstrated when Palestinian Foreign Affairs Minister Riyad al-Maliki, in New York with Abbas, confirmed the vote was to take place one day after his office in Ramallah denied it.

Abbas eventually postponed any initiative at the request of France who wants to be in the driver’s seat of their own Israeli-Palestinian peace summit later this year.

Some frustrated senior Palestinian officials blasted Abbas for backing out as they see no reason to wait for further support. However, the French initiative appears to go much farther than Jewish settlement issues.

The French proposal will see representatives from some 30 countries meet on May 30th to discuss the parameters for an international peace conference to be held later in the year in Paris.  The US, Russia, European Union, UN, Arab League and the members of the UN Security Council will all attend the May meeting. Ironically, neither Israel nor the Palestinians will be present.

Israeli and Palestinian leaders will not be invited until the 2nd meeting, which will have as it’s goal the opening of talks to reach a final peace accord.

The fact that Israel and Palestinian leaders will not be at the May 30th summit is a glaring warning to both sides that international frustration at the lack of progress with peace talks has reached a boiling point. Some analysts worry that this could be the beginning of an imposed peace upon the parties rather than the parties themselves coming to terms.

Folks in the “prophecy watching community” are looking for a number of different “signs” which will — in their minds — prove that Jesus is coming “soon.” As there is obvious confusion among the Palestinian authorities at the moment, we can say the same about “authorities” who speak about, publish books about, and insist that THEY ARE RIGHT about THEIR VIEW of Bible prophecy. In my view, this — more often than not — plays out in three basic ways among sincere followers of Christ:

  1. Those who identify with “the authorities” they agree with.
  2.  Those who are following the crowd of believers looking hopefully to the skies for Jesus to appear at any moment.
  3.  Those who blissfully could care less.

But there is an explanation that is often ignored or explained away by individuals whose opinions it contradicts. It’s the timeline that Jesus gave, referring to prophecies made known through the prophets Daniel and Isaiah.

Here’s what Jesus said in Matthew 24 (shortened):

15 So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’ [Daniel 9:27; 11:31; 12:11] spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand—16 then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains…. 21 For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again….

29 “Immediately after the distress of those days

“‘the sun will be darkened,
    and the moon will not give its light;
the stars will fall from the sky,
and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’ [Isaiah 13:10; 34:4]

30 Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. 31 And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.

Here’s what Daniel wrote:

“… the Anointed One will be put to death and will have nothing. [Fulfilled when Jesus was crucified.] The people of the ruler who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary.  [Fulfilled when Roman legions destroyed Jerusalem and the Jewish temple.] The end will come like a flood: War will continue until the end, and desolations have been decreed. 27 He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven. [One ‘seven’ means a period of seven years.] In the middle of the ‘seven’ he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And at the temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him.(Daniel 9:26-27, New International Version)

Some common sense power points:

  • “He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven.’ Can anyone produce, in all of written history, an agreement, which was signed “with many,” that was agreed to conclude at the end of seven years? If not, that would mean we are still waiting for this prophecy to be fulfilled.
  • “In the middle of the ‘seven’ he will put an end to sacrifice and offering.” The only place where appropriate sacrifices and offerings could be made to the God of Abraham, according to the Laws of Moses, was the Jewish temple — “the holy place” (see Matthew 24:15).
  • “And at the temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation …”  The temple used by the Jews to offer sacrifices and offerings to the Lord God was completely destroyed by Roman legions in 70 A.D. — just as Jesus foretold (see Matthew 24:1-2).
Something else that Jesus warned about:

“Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There!’ do not believe it. For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. See, I have told you beforehand.” (Matthew 24:23-25)

SO, this is what we should be watching for:
  1. A COVENANT (or agreement) — possibly promising peace between the parties named — that is to last for SEVEN YEARS.
  2. The rebuilding of THE JEWISH TEMPLE.
  3. The DESECRATION OF THAT HOLY PLACE at approximately 3 1/2 YEARS AFTER THE SIGNING OF THAT AGREEMENT.

Will a seven-year agreement be signed between Israel and the Palestinians (and perhaps MANY other countries as well)  as a result of efforts currently being made by the International Community? I have no idea. But … if the rest of what I’ve written here makes sense to YOU, please pray about forwarding this post and sharing it with others in printed form.

God forbid that any sincere followers of Christ give up prematurely — as tribulation becomes nearly unbearable — and be left behind.

Remain diligent and keep watching …

Perfect Red Heifer found in Lakewood, NJ

[ARTICLE BEGINS] A fully red cow, which appears to be usable as the biblical Red Heifer, has been attracting increasing attention on a small farm outside of Lakewood, New Jersey. A parah adumah, or red heifer, is necessary to produce the ash needed for the ritual purification process, essential to performing the service in the Temple in Jerusalem.

There have been 9 in all of history. It’s said that the 10th will be the one to be used in the 3rd Temple.

The son of Holocaust survivors, the farm’s owner Herbert Celler has lived in the Lakewood area since 1961 and attended the Betzalel Hebrew Day School. He operates a sheitel (wig) outlet, known as Classy Hair Design, the profits of which go to aid poor Lakewood families.

Preparing For The Third Temple – Priests In Training Prepare Trial Run For Temple Sacrifice

April 06, 2015 |

The fall of the Second Temple 2,000-odd years ago may have seen the end of sacrificial offerings in Judaism. But ahead of Friday’s festival of Passover, the Jerusalem-based Temple Institute has released a video offering an “authentic reenactment” of the ancient biblical practice.

The sacrificial lamb marks the miraculous exodus of the Jewish people from Egypt, as recorded in the Hebrew Bible. The ceremony was formally suspended for Jews with the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 CE, and is now only performed by the Samaritan community, which will hold its annual event on Mount Gerizim in the West Bank on May 2, 2015.

The roots of the sacrifice are found in the Book of Exodus. Ahead of the last of the 10 plagues on Egypt, the death of the firstborns, God tells Moses to speak to the people of Israel and instruct each household to obtain a lamb on the 10th of Nisan. The lambs should be kept until the 14th, when the people of Israel should slaughter them at dusk. Later, they should take its blood and put it on their doorposts and on the lintel of the houses in which they are eating. The fire-roasted lamb’s flesh should then all be consumed that night with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.

In the biblical Kingdom of Israel, the annual sacrifice was conducted by the Kohanim, or priestly class, on Jerusalem’s Temple Mount. Interestingly, although Jesus is often referred to as the “Paschal lamb,” historians say an actual Paschal lamb was likely the main course at the historical Last Supper. Based on the Christian scriptures, many scholars claim the famous meal was indeed a Passover Seder.

Located in Jerusalem’s Old City, the Temple Institute is a non-profit government- and privately funded center of “research and preparation for the Holy Temple.” It recently established a bi-weekly “Cohanim Training Academy,” in which students considered members of the priestly caste (through patriarchal lineage) are taught and practically prepared for future “Holy Temple service.”

The international director of the Temple Institute, Rabbi Chaim Richman, claims that the video, which was uploaded Monday and is somewhat graphic, portrays the “most accurate and authentic reenactment of this service to have taken place in nearly 2,000 years.”

The purification practices described in Numbers were given to the Israelites after the Lord God redeemed them from slavery in Egypt. Because of their pride and arrogance, the nation had to wander in the wilderness for forty years, relying only on their God for their daily needs.

After King David died, his son Solomon was commissioned by the Lord God to build a temple for use as a place set aside for sacrifices and offerings to Him, Israel’s sustainer. Just before Jesus died on the cross, he uttered the prophetic words, “It is finished” (John 19:30). Read about what happened after that in Matthew 27:51, Mark 15:38, and Luke 23:45. The “curtain” spoken of in these passages was around 60-feet high (See http://www.gotquestions.org/temple-veil-torn.html), so the fact that it was torn in two lengthwise proves that it was ripped supernaturally.

The “veil” that had always separated God from sinful humans was destroyed at the moment of Jesus’ death, signifying that He  paid the price for sin, and there is no longer separation between humans and God IF we accept His Son as a bridge of holiness leading to salvation. We don’t need to go through a priest or pastor or other human being for our prayers to be heard.

But for those who do not accept that Jesus IS the Messiah Savior spoken of by the ancient prophets — the Old Testament (Torah) — the original commandments still stand and must be obeyed. That is why tradition-following Jews believe that the temple must be rebuilt and that the offering of animal sacrifices can be reinstated — so their sins can be forgiven.

Other prophetic reasons the temple must be rebuilt, so that:

  • Daniel’s prophecy can be fulfilled: “He [the “first beast” foretold in Revelation 13] will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven’ [7 years]. In the middle of the ‘seven’ he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And at the temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him.” (Daniel 9:27, NIV)
  • Jesus’ prophecy concerning Daniel’s prophecy can be fulfilled: ““So when you see standing in the holy place [the temple] ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’ spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains…. For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again.” (Matthew 24:15-21, NIV)
  • Prophecy concerning “the abomination that causes desolation” can be fulfilled: [John speaking] “I saw a second beast, coming out of the earth. It [or “he”] had two horns like a lamb, but it spoke like a dragon. It exercised all the authority of the first beast on its behalf, and made the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast…. It ordered them to set up an image in honor of the beast who was wounded by the sword and yet lived. The second beast was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that the image could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed.  [There seems to be a connection here with Daniel’s prophecy about setting up an “abomination” in the (rebuilt) temple, since worshiping anything or anyone instead of God is strictly forbidden in Judaism and Christianity. An “abomination” would only occur if this worship took place in a rebuilt temple dedicated to the God of Israel.]

HOLY ALTAR CONSTRUCTED FOR 3RD JEWISH TEMPLE

Announcement considered major step in Bible prophecy

March 13, 2015

destruction_of_temple

End-times prophecy watchers are marveling over a news report out of Jerusalem this week that the Altar of the Lord has been reconstructed by the Temple Institute.

The Institute, based in the Old City of Jerusalem, announced it has finished building an altar that is essentially “ready for use” in sacrificial services.

The altar is the most ambitious project to date toward the goal of rebuilding the Jewish Temple. The massive outdoor altar, which took several years to build, can be operational at little more than a moment’s notice, reported the Israeli magazine Matzav Haruach.

The altar is the last major component needed for the long-obstructed sacrifices to resume in a future Jewish temple.

Ultra-Orthodox Jews pray daily for its reconstruction atop the holy hill known as Mount Moriah or the Temple Mount.

Bible scholars say the rebuilding of the ancient temple is predicted throughout scripture, starting with Daniel’s vision in Daniel 9:27. Jesus echoed Daniel’s warning about an abomination standing in “the holy place” in the last days in Matthew 24:15, followed by the Apostle John’s vision of the Temple in Revelation 11:1-2. Paul mentioned it in 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4.

Most people don’t realize the temple had two altars — the altar of burnt offering and the altar of incense. The largest was the altar of burnt offering, placed in the outer court of the priests. Designing and building it to exact biblical specifications required quite an undertaking.

It was approximately 5 meters (16 feet) tall and 16 meters (52.5 feet) wide, with four “horns” or raised corners, and a ramp.

The altar is the central focus of the sacrificial services that were halted with the destruction of the Second Temple by the Romans in 70 A.D.

The Temple Institute has prepared all the priestly garments and sacred vessels for the rebuilt temple, which can be viewed on its website.  It even trains members of the priestly family to be ready to serve as soon as the Temple is constructed.

Carl Gallups, a Baptist pastor in Florida, Bible prophecy expert and author of “Final Warning: Understanding the Trumpet Days of Revelation,” told WND the announcement about the altar will be seen by many Christians as a huge step toward fulfillment of Bible prophecy.

“This announcement will surely excite prophecy watchers around the world,” he said. “Regardless of one’s eschatological leanings, every sincere student of the Word of God knows there are at least hints, if not clear declarations, of something happening just before the return of the Lord that involves altar sacrifices and the distinct possibility of a rebuilt temple on the Temple Mount.”

Jonathan Cahn, author of “The Harbinger” and “The Mystery of the Shemitah” also sees the announcement as significant.

“We know that end-time prophecy cannot be fulfilled without the rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem,” Cahn, a Messianic Jewish rabbi in New Jersey, told WND. “The abomination desolation prophesied in Daniel and in the Gospels, must take place within the Temple precincts. So, too, the apostle Paul speaks of the ‘man of sin,’ or the Antichrist, sitting in the Temple of God. What many people don’t realize is that along with the Holy of Holies, the altar of the Temple is the most central and critical part of the Temple.”

Cahn said it is the altar that is the center of the abomination causing desolation.

“It was specifically the altar of the Temple that was desecrated by Antiochus Epiphanes in the days of the Maccabees that comprised the first abomination desolation and the foreshadowing of what will take place in the end-times,” he said. “So any progress made toward the rebuilding of the altar is worthy of our attention.

PRAYERS TO GOD IN WRONG SPOT?

Temple Mount ‘misplaced’: ‘We’re sitting on kryptonite’

LEO HOHMANN

It has been called the most contested plot of land in the world — the fissure at which three major faiths come together, and break apart.

There have been holy wars fought over it and holy writ foretelling of battles yet to come. It’s Jerusalem’s Temple Mount.

But what if history got it wrong? What if the spot where Solomon built the first Jewish Temple, and Herod built the second, was actually about 600 feet to the south, in a place known as the ancient City of David?

Enter Robert Cornuke. He travels the world solving Bible mysteries: Noah’s Ark, the Ark of the Covenant, he’s studied them in depth. Now, he’s obsessed with the Jewish Temple.

His self-deprecating sense of humor and easy-going style have helped him gain access to some of the world’s most sensitive archaeological sites.

But don’t be fooled.

He attacks each mission with the doggedness of a street cop skilled in investigations. That’s because he was a street cop for nearly a decade in California before a three-hour gun battle with a man holed up with 700 rounds of ammo some years ago caused him to rethink his career options.

His new book, “Temple: Amazing New Discoveries that Change Everything About the Location of Solomon’s Temple,” is turning heads in scholarly circles for its pure audacity.

To suggest that the traditional Temple Mount, where Jews have prayed at the Wailing Wall and where Muslims pray at the Dome of the Rock, is actually not the holy ground they believe it to be, is sacrilege to many historians and archaeologists, not to mention clerics.

Yet, his case is so well researched that it’s hard to ignore. Many are reading, and re-reading, perhaps hoping to find some obvious blunder that would allow them to discount its conclusion.

Because, if it is true, that means the unthinkable for Muslims, and opens new possibilities for Jews.

“We have an opportunity to impact history, positively or negatively,” Cornuke said. “What we’re sitting on is the kryptonite of Bible archaeology.”

He was careful to point out this was not his idea. He merely followed up and expanded upon the work of Ernest L. Martin, an archaeologist who wrote the 1994 book, “The Temples that Jerusalem Forgot.”

Filmmaker Ken Klein has also delved into the subject in his documentary, “Jerusalem and the Lost Temple of the Jews.”

“This is not my brainchild,” he told WND. “I’m the benefactor of Dr. Martin, who really came up with this research but his book didn’t get much attention because it contained a lot of minutia that people had to wade through. I tried to write a book that is readable.

“The site has been misdiagnosed and been accepted for so long that no one has ever dared challenge it,” Cornuke continued. “I researched it to the best of my ability, from the standpoint of a police investigator, and came up with a reasonable conclusion.”

The authentic location of the first two temples is critical for the building of the third temple.

The third temple must be rebuilt for the following prophecies, according to Jesus and the prophet Daniel, to be fulfilled:

Jesus foretoldSo when you see standing in the holy place [the temple of the Jews]  ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’ spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand— then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. … For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again.” (Matthew 24:15-21, NIV)

Foretold through Daniel: “… the Anointed One [Jesus Christ] will be put to death and will have nothing.[Fulfilled when Jesus was crucified.] The people of the ruler who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. [Fulfilled in 70 AD when the second temple was destroyed by the Romans.] The end will come like a flood: War will continue until the end, and desolations have been decreed. He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven.’ In the middle of the ‘seven’ he will put an end to sacrifice and offering [Old Testament sacrifice and offering can only take place in the temple]. And at the temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him.” (Daniel 9:26-27, NIV)

In other words, “he” will desecrate the Jewish temple (which must be rebuilt) IF prophecy is to be fulfilled. Jesus said this will happen BEFORE He returns to “gather his elect” …

Jesus said“Immediately after the distress of those days

“‘the sun will be darkened,
    and the moon will not give its light;
the stars will fall from the sky,
and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’

THEN will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And THEN all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.” (Matthew 24:29-31, NIV)

Carefully treading on theological toes …

My 6/22/14  post explained the significance of the perfect red heifer that is being kept in a secure location. There are varying reports about whether it is in route to the Temple Institute in Jerusalem. Whatever the facts are at the moment, this provides a good opportunity to help educate my readers, and that is my primary goal.

I filled in some historical blank spaces with facts that we need to pull together and get a grip on if we are going to be able to comprehend what is coming, as described in ancient Bible prophecy. Let me restate …

  • The descendants of Jacob (also called ISRAEL) first worshiped the Lord their God in a specifically designed tent called THE TABERNACLE or Tent of Meeting.
  • Generations later, a building was erected according to specifications given to King David and his son Solomon called THE TEMPLE. It’s location: the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.
  • The FIRST TEMPLE was destroyed by the Babylonians in 586 B.C. and the southern kingdom of Judah (the “Jews”) was taken into captivity for 70 years. (Dubbed “the Lost Tribes of Israel” the northern kingdom of Israel was taken captive earlier by Assyria and dispersed throughout the known world.)
  • After the 70 years was completed a majority of the exiled Jews returned to Jerusalem and built THE SECOND TEMPLE on the foundation of the destroyed first temple.
  • THE SECOND TEMPLE was destroyed in 70 A.D. (as foretold by Jesus) and the Diaspora began when a majority of the Jews who had lived in Jerusalem were persecuted and dispersed into other countries. But God promised that they would one day return to the Promised Land.
  • 1948 Israel was once again declared a nation! But the THIRD TEMPLE has not yet been built.

So how can we know that the third temple WILL BE BUILT eventually? Because prophecy given through Daniel and Jesus tells us it will….

DANIEL 9:27 foretells, “He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven.’ In the middle of the ‘seven’ he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And at the temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him.”

JESUS FORETOLD:

“Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me.  At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

“So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’ spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand— then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Let no one on the housetop go down to take anything out of the house.  Let no one in the field go back to get their cloak. How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers!

“Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath. For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again.

“If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened. At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘There he is!’ do not believe it. For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. See, I have told you ahead of time.” (Matthew 24:9-25, NIV 2011)

Many Bible scholars believe that the “covenant with many” spoken of through Daniel will be a peace treaty of some kind. The term “one ‘seven'” refers to a period of seven years. “In the middle of the ‘seven’ — around the 3 1/2 year point, “he will set up an abomination that causes desolation” at the temple (some translations say “on a wing of the temple”), and when that happens, Jesus said “there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now — and never to be equaled again.”

Scholars, pastors and Christians who believe in the Pretribulation Rapture Theory say that we can expect to be taken up  (as described in Matthew 24:39-41, Luke 17:34-35, and 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17) at any moment. THAT’S NOT WHAT JESUS SAID!

Jesus said this:

“IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE DISTRESS OF THOSE DAYS

“‘the sun will be darkened,
    and the moon will not give its light;
the stars will fall from the sky,
and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’

“THEN WILL APPEAR THE SIGN OF THE SON OF MAN IN HEAVEN.

Christians who think that Scripture promises escape from “great distress” when that time comes, may find that they are ill-prepared to meet the challenges of that event.

Jesus promised that we can find peace IN HIM: “I have told you these things, so that IN ME you may have peaceIn this world YOU WILL HAVE TROUBLE. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
