“America is uniquely paralleled to ancient Israel in many ways. From its very conception it was built upon a biblical foundation and dedicated for God’s purposes, as was Israel…. Now, as with ancient Israel, it is falling away from that foundation.” — Jonathan Cahn

The divine revelation and insight given to Jonathan Cahn and explained through his books, The Harbinger: The Mystery That Holds the Secret to America’s Future (2012) and The Harbinger Companion (2013) begins with ancient history. Amazingly, God’s relationship with direct descendants of a man named Abraham and his wife Sarah – known as the Israelites – is connected in amazing ways with modern-day America.

  • The nation of Israel was founded on principles that were given to them by the Lord God to keep them physically, mentally and spiritually safe from evil. The Hebrew Torah (the first 5 books of the Bible’s Old Testament) was written to remind the nation of those boundaries. In return for their adherence to those laws, God promised to provide a supernatural hedge of protection from their enemies.

When the Pilgrims and Puritans first came to America, they intended to establish a nation that would be governed by the principles given to the Israelites by the prophet, Moses, and recorded in the Bible. Later, when George Washington was inaugurated President of the United States of America in the first capitol city of New York, he led members of the first Congress to St. Paul’s Church and prayed for God’s hedge of protection around the fledgling nation.

  • God called the Israelites “a stiff-necked people” because they became DEFIANT and insisted on following their own desires rather than faithfully adhering to the basic principles that God had given them to keep them safe. The Lord God foretold through his prophets that the nation would choose to worship false gods that were revered by peoples who surrounded them geographically. They would fall away and resent the hedge of God’s supernatural protection.

For centuries, Americans (collectively) made a conscious effort to establish and adhere to laws of governance based on the principles given to the Israelites by their God. Their leaders looked to the Lord God for supernatural help during times of attack from surrounding nations who demonstrated aggression and DEFIANCE. And America was largely protected from the evil that threatened the nation as a whole. But eventually, individuals began falling away, resenting and abusing those laws.

In response to their DEFIANCE, the Lord God would allow terrorists from Assyria to breach the hedge of divine protection and attack the Israelites. In response to their DEFIANCE, the Lord God would allow terrorist descendants of the ancient Assyrians to breach the hedge of divine protection and attack Americans!

In 732 B.C., the northern kingdom of Israel was attacked by Assyrian terrorists. A majority of the direct descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were captured and dispersed throughout the known world. (These people are often referred to as “the lost tribes of Israel.”) The descendants of Jacob – primarily from the tribes of JUDAH and Benjamin, who remained could have humbled themselves returned to live within the hedge of God’s protection. Instead they were DEFIANT. The prophet Isaiah recorded their collective response:

They said “with pride and arrogance of heart”:

“The bricks have fallen down, but we will rebuild with dressed [gazit in Hebrew] stone;
the fig trees [sycamores] have been felled, but we will replace them with cedars [erez in Hebrew].”   (Isaiah 9:10)

On September 11, 2001, descendants of ancient Assyrian terrorists – who spoke the ancient language of the Assyrians – attacked America and destroyed the World Trade Center, in New York City – symbol of America’s rise as a superpower. That plot of real estate became known as “Ground Zero.”

At one corner of “Ground Zero” sits a little, old chapelSt. Paul’s Church, where George Washington and members of the first American congress had prayed for God’s protection. As the bricks of the towers around it fell, St. Paul’s Church was protected BY AN ADJACENT SYCAMORE TREE!

On September 12, 2001, America’s Congress gathered in Washington D.C. (the capitol city after NYC) to issue a formal response to the devastating attack the day before that had so dramatically changed the lives of thousands of Americans. Tom Daschle spoke on behalf of the nation.

Here is a portion of his statement:

“This joint resolution we lay down today condemns yesterday’s attacks, expresses our sympathy for the victims, and our support for the President as Commander-in-Chief. The world should know that the members of both parties, in both houses, stand united in this: the full resources of our government will be brought to bear in aiding the search and rescue, and in hunting down those responsible, and those who may have aided or harbored them.

“Nothing can replace the losses that have been suffered. I know that there is only the smallest measure of inspiration that can be taken from this devastation. But there is a passage in the Bible, from Isaiah, that I think speaks to all of us at times like this. ‘The bricks have fallen down, but we will rebuild with dressed stone; the fig trees have been felled, but we will replace them with cedars.’
That is what we will do. We will rebuild and we will recover.

Tom Daschle was completely unaware of the pattern of judgment that had befallen ancient Israel AFTER they had defiantly vowed to rebuild what had been destroyed, using stronger materials (replacing bricks made of clay and straw with hewn stone), and to recover by replanting stronger trees (replacing sycamores with cedars). In the days, months and years following the 9/11 attacks, three words from Isaiah 9:10 were repeated again and again by American leaders – “We WILL rebuild.” According to Jonathan Cahn, “It was the reenactment of an ancient mystery – and bore the most grave of consequences.”
This is what happened next …

THE “GAZIT” STONE: America’s first act of rebuilding after the 9/11 attacks was to cut a 20-ton rectangular block of garnet-flecked granite from the Adirondak mountainside in upstate New York. It was professionally hewn and ceremoniously placed at Ground Zero on July 4th, 2004 as a cornerstone for the “Freedom Tower” that would eventually rise in DEFIANCE of America’s enemies … and God’s protection.

*Striking down the brick buildings had been an act of divine judgment. Remember the Israelite’s vow to replace the fallen bricks with quarried “gazit” stone?

THE “EREZ” TREE: The fallen sycamore tree – symbolic of God’s blessings — that had shielded St. Paul’s Church from destruction, was uprooted (just as the sycamores in Israel were uprooted by the Assyrians). A bronze statue of the sycamore’s root system was placed at the end of Wall Street – the symbol of financial and economic power. In 2003, a tree was lowered by crane into the precise spot where the fallen sycamore had stood. It was ceremoniously labeled, “The Tree of Hope.”

*The Isaiah prophecy reads: “The sycamores have been cut down, but we will plant cedars in their place.” The sycamore at Ground Zero was replaced with a tree that’s called “erez” in Hebrew. In English it is translated “cedar.”

Jonathan Cahn explains that “harbingers” such as these are warnings from God to return to him or face judgment. But there are few signs that America’s leaders (collectively) are moving in that direction.

Funny thing … The “gazit” that was supposed to act as the “cornerstone” for the Freedom Tower was quietly trucked to Long Island in 2006. It apparently didn’t fit the revamped architectural plans. And the “erez” tree – the tree of hope – withered and died just two years after it was replanted at Ground Zero.

It’s also interesting to note that Jonathan Cahn has labeled The Eighth Harbinger, The Utterance.” He explains: “Simply stated, following a calamity caused by God lifting His hedge of protection on a backslidden nation, a nation’s leaders respond with public DEFIANCE. They boast of their country’s resolve and power. They speak of a nation DEFIANT and determined to emerge stronger than ever. THE VOW GIVES VOICE TO A NATIONAL SPIRIT AND SEALS THE NATION’S COURSE.

Here are some of the “utterances” spoken by America’s leaders concerning the calamity of 9/11:

GEORGE W. BUSH (President of the United States in 2001): “The pictures of airplanes flying into buildings, fires burning, huge structures collapsing have filled us with disbelief, terrible sadness, and a quiet, unyielding anger. … These acts of mass murder were intended to frighten our nation into chaos and retreat. But they have failed. Our country is strong. A great people have been moved to defend a great nation. Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve.”

RUDY GIULIANI (former Mayor of New York City): “People tonight should say a prayer for the people we’ve lost, and be grateful that we’re all here. Tomorrow, New York is going to be here, and we’re going to rebuild, and we’re going to be stronger than we were before.”

GEORGE PATAKIi: (New York Governor): “Today, we, the heirs of that revolutionary spirit of defiance, lay this cornerstone and unmistakably signal to the world the unwavering strength of this nation, and our resolve to fight for freedom.”

JOHN EDWARDS: (Senator and 2004 candidate for Vice President of the U.S.): “Good morning. Today, on this day of remembrance and mourning [the 3rd anniversary of 9/11], we have the Lord’s Word to get us through: “The bricks have fallen, but we will rebuild with dressed stones. The sycamores have been cut down but we will plant cedars in their place.

Senator Edwards had no clue that the words he had quoted were actually spoken by a DEFIANT, STIFF-NECKED PEOPLE – the Israelites!

In his first State of the Union address in 2009, PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA arrived at the pinnacle of his speech: “But while our economy may be weakened and our confidence shaken, though we are living through difficult and uncertain times, I want every American to know this: We will rebuild. We will recover. And the United States of America will emerge stronger than before.

President Obama’s comments were not only in response to what the country had endured following the terrorist attacks on 9/11/2001. They followed the close of a Shemitah year and the greatest stock market crash in U.S. history.

So what’s the Shemitah all about?

DID YOU KNOW?

  •   There is an ancient pattern of judgment that God uses when a nation becomes deaf to his call for a sincere attitude of humility and repentence.

A nation that has been founded on the Word of God will receive a series of warnings (“harbingers”) before judgment finally falls upon that nation’s deaf ears. Because God does not want anyone to perish (2 Peter 3:9), he gives grace to the nation at first. Then a template begins to emerge, which becomes more severe in pattern and progression as the warnings are ignored. This pattern was demonstrated within the recorded family history of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and their descendants — the Hebrews (see Parts 1 and 2 of this series).

  • Instead of humbling themselves before their God, the ancient Hebrews became defiant, and after God sent the king of Babylon to destroy their temple in Jerusalem, they said “with pride and arrogance of heart”:

“The bricks have fallen down,
    but we will rebuild with dressed stone;
the fig trees have been felled,
but we will replace them with cedars.” (Isaiah 9:10)

So the remnant – those left behind after Assyria attacked the northern kingdom’s capital, Samaria – was defiant rather than humbled. They rebuilt with quarried stone and strong wood from cedar trees. But their kingdom was never restored. Instead of “Israel” the region became known as “Samaria” – a melting pot for immigrants.

DID YOU KNOW?

  •  God has been issuing warnings of impending judgment on America, which parallel those issued to ancient Israel — through inspired messages spoken and written by a modern-day Jewish rabbi.

Jonathan Cahn, author of books and DVDs on this subject, is the son of immigrants — his father escaped the Holocaust in Germany and his mother escaped the Russian czar. Both of his parents were scientists.

Jonathan attended synagogue from an early age, but he questioned what he was being taught and became an atheist at the age of 8. When he was 13, he became disillusioned with atheism and started searching for answers to the questions that haunted his thoughts. He began reading books on religion, the supernatural, the occult, etc. until he came across The Late, Great Planet Earth by Hal Lindsey. That book led him to begin searching for truth in the Old Testament of the Bible. After a long search he came to the conclusion that ancient prophecies prove Yeshua, Jesus, is the only person who could be the Jewish Messiah.

Now Jonathan leads the Jerusalem Center / Beth Israel in Wayne, New Jersey, as well as Hope of the World ministries, an international outreach dedicated to spreading God’s word and love around the globe.

Shortly after 9/11/2001, Jonathan was led to read about the Assyrian strike on ancient Israel and to the key scripture that became the focus of his divinely inspired book, The Harbinger“The bricks have fallen down, but we will rebuild with dressed stone; the fig trees have been felled, but we will replace them with cedars.” (Isaiah 9:10). The Harbinger uses a fictional format to reveal spiritual truths to as many people as possible. Jonathan claims that the words would stream onto his computer whenever he sat down to write, as though they had already existed before he typed them.

The book was finished in four months of writing in his spare time. But then he had a problem. He had never written a book before and had no idea how to go about getting it published. But he had no doubt that The Harbinger was from God, so he committed the dilemma to the Lord.

Less than a week after Jonathan finished writing the book, he was  on his way to speak at a Christian gathering in Dallas, Texas. During a lay-over in Charlotte, North Carolina, he sat in the airport and bowed his head to pray that the hand of God would intercede for his purposes and glory alone. When he opened his eyes, a man sitting next to him started a conversation. All of a sudden the man’s demeanor changed, and he began saying that Jonathan was going to publish a book that was “of the Lord.” He foretold that everything in Jonathan’s life was about to change and that he would be known across the land.

The entire encounter paralleled a scene in The Harbinger, which Jonathan had just written, concerning a man who was told by a stranger that he would write a book warning of judgment falling upon America! Hubie Synn was the name of the man who gave that prophecy to Jonathan. He is the same man who spoke to David Tyree before the Super Bowl game in 2008 between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots.

The prophetic word given to David Tyree foretold that he would be given a platform to share the gospel. What followed was nothing less than miraculous. At a key turning point in the game, Tyree jumped into the air, grabbed the football thrown by Eli Manning, pinned it against his helmet and was tackled as he returned to the ground. The play became known as the greatest in Super Bowl history!

David Tyree later wrote a book, and in it he mentioned Hubie Synn, the man who gave him the prophecy. Because of that, Hubie Synn had a connection with the founder and CEO of Charisma Media, publisher of Frontline books, Steve Strang. Hubie sent word to Steve about his encounter in the Charlotte airport “with a Jewish man bearing a message for America.”  That  led to a meeting with Strang, who published The Harbinger in 2012, and within the first week of its release, it became a national bestseller.

Funny thing … Hubie Synn was not supposed to be in the Charlotte airport at the moment he sat down alongside the Jewish man whose head was bowed in prayer. But because of bad weather, his flight had been postponed several times, so he was at last placed on Jonathan’s flight and had felt moved to speak words to him from the Lord!

I feel it’s important to share this amazing testimony with my readers before we delve any deeper into the detailed information revealed within the pages of Jonathan Cahn’s books — The Harbinger, The Harbinger Companion and Bible Study, and The Mystery of the Shemitah — so that YOU will understand why I have felt such a sense of urgency to help Rabbi Jonathan Cahn spread the words that God obviously wants all Americans to hear.

Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit” is saying to America and to the world.

America Uniquely Parallels Ancient Israel!

(Part 2)

DID YOU KNOW?

  • God gives adequate warning before releasing judgment upon a nation.

There is an ancient pattern of judgment that God uses when a nation becomes deaf to his call for repentance. “Repentance” means to sincerely turn away from focus on self, which has taken control of the mind and heart, and to turn toward God with an attitude of humility.

God’s promise of protection from threats to Israel’s security and existence is recorded in Leviticus 26:6-11, but it begins with a condition: 3 “‘If you follow my decrees and are careful to obey my commands … [THEN] 6 I will grant peace in the land, and you will lie down and no one will make you afraid. I will remove wild beasts from the land, and the sword will not pass through your country. You will pursue your enemies, and they will fall by the sword before you….  9 I will look on you with favor and make you fruitful and increase your numbers, and I will keep my covenant with you. 10 You will still be eating last year’s harvest when you will have to move it out to make room for the new. 11 I will put my dwelling place [the temple] among you, and I will not abhor you.’”

The Lord God reminds the Israelites of what he did for their ancestors: “‘13 I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt so that you would no longer be slaves to the Egyptians; I broke the bars of your yoke and enabled you to walk with heads held high.’” Then he lays out the consequences of disobedience:

14 “‘But if you will not listen to me and carry out all these commands, 15 and if you reject my decrees and abhor my laws and fail to carry out all my commands and so violate my covenant, 16 then I will do this to you: I will bring on you sudden terror, wasting diseases and fever that will destroy your sight and sap your strength. You will plant seed in vain, because your enemies will eat it. 17 I will set my face against you so that you will be defeated by your enemies …

18 “‘If after all this you will not listen to me 19 I will break down your stubborn pride … your soil will not yield its crops, nor will the trees of your land yield their fruit….

21 “‘If you remain hostile toward me and refuse to listen to me, I will multiply your afflictions seven times over, as your sins deserve.

23 “‘If in spite of these things you do not accept my correction but continue to be hostile toward me, 24 I myself will be hostile toward you …25 And I will bring the sword on you … I will send a plague among you, and you will be given into enemy hands. 26 When I cut off your supply of bread … You will eat, but you will not be satisfied.

27 “‘If in spite of this you still do not listen to me but continue to be hostile toward me, 28 then in my anger I will be hostile toward you, and I myself will punish you for your sins seven times over…. 30 I will destroy your high places, cut down your incense altars and pile your dead bodies on the lifeless forms of your idols, and I will abhor you. 31 I will turn your cities into ruins and lay waste your sanctuaries, and I will take no delight in the pleasing aroma of your offerings. 32 I myself will lay waste the land, so that your enemies who live there will be appalled.’”

  •  God issued warnings of impending judgment to ancient Israel (the northern kingdom) by supernaturally “speaking” to the nation, collectively, through his chosen prophets.

“‘If after all this you will not listen to me (Leviticus 26:33)  I will scatter you among the nations and will draw out my sword and pursue you. Your land will be laid waste, and your cities will lie in ruins.36As for those of you who are left, I will make their hearts so fearful in the lands of their enemies that the sound of a windblown leaf will put them to flight…. you will not be able to stand before your enemies. 38 You will perish among the nations; the land of your enemies will devour you. 39 Those of you who are left will waste away in the lands of their enemies because of their sins; also because of their ancestors’ sins they will waste away.’”

Verse 39 speaks to “those who are left” — The Lord God has ALWAYS left a remnant of Jacob’s direct descendants in the promised land. But the majority of the 10 tribes who lived in the northern kingdom, after the promised land was divided in two (931 BC; read about it in 1 Kings 11-14), were carried off to Assyria in 732 BC and their descendants were scattered among the nations.

After the kingdom of Israel was destroyed, only the kingdom of JUDAH (the Jews) remained, along with the First Temple built by David’s fourth son, Solomon. And the prophets kept reminding the Jews of God’s promise about repentance:

40 “‘But if they will confess their sins and the sins of their ancestors—their unfaithfulness and their hostility toward me, 41 which made me hostile toward them so that I sent them into the land of their enemies—then when their uncircumcised hearts are humbled and they pay for their sin, 42 I will remember my covenant with Jacob and my covenant with Isaac and my covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land.’”

However, the Jews DID NOT confess their sins and repent. THEREFORE, the Lord God brought King Nebuchadnezzar against them, and the majority of citizens who inhabited the southern kingdom were carried off into captivity in Babylon for 70 years (as foretold by the prophet Jeremiah). In addition to the destruction of their capital city, Jerusalem, King Solomon’s Temple was also destroyed.

In the aftermath of the temple’s destruction, the Lord God sent a prophetic message of hope to the Jews:

“‘Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress. In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali [the northern kingdom], but in the future he will honor Galilee of the nations…

The people walking in darkness
    have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of deep darkness
    a light has dawned….
6 For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
    Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the greatness of his government and peace
    there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne
    and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it
    with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the Lord Almighty
    will accomplish this.’” (Isaiah 9:1-7)

God promised that a Savior who would appear in Galilee to reign over David’s kingdom [his descendants] and restore justice and righteousness forever!

BUT THE JEWS (collectively) BECAME EVEN MORE DEFIANT! And they said “with pride and arrogance of heart”:

“The bricks have fallen down,
    but we will rebuild with dressed stone;
the fig trees have been felled,
but we will replace them with cedars.” (Isaiah 9:10)

So they DID rebuild the temple — with quarried stone in place of bricks reinforced with straw, and with strong wood from cedars rather than from fig trees. Eventually King Herod took over the project and increased the Second Temple’s magnificence! … But in 70AD, that temple was also destroyed and once again, the Jews were scattered among the nations.

(BUT they were regathered after World War II and returned to their homeland in 1948 — just as the prophet Ezekiel foretold!)

America Uniquely Parallels Ancient Israel!

(Part 1)

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Ancient Israel was conceived through a promise.

The Lord God, creator of the universe and planet Earth, called a man named Abram (a.k.a. Abraham), nearly 4,000 years ago, to travel to a place called “Canaan.” That ancient land is currently hotly contested real estate in the Middle East.

Supernaturally, God vowed to make Abram’s descendants into a great nation, which was odd because he and his wife were well beyond child-bearing age. When God did not make good on his promise immediately, Abram’s wife Sarai brought her Egyptian handmaiden to him and convinced him to have intercourse with her. Sarai figured that her husband had “misunderstood the message” and that they should take matters into their own hands!

Sarai’s maid, Hagar, conceived and gave birth to Abram’s firstborn son, Ishmael. (You can read about that in the family record book, which we know today as The Torah, or “the Old Testament” in The Bible — Genesis 12-16.) Ishmael’s descendants are modern-day Arabs, who for millennia have conjoined with other ethnic peoples from around the world.

After Ishmael was born, the Lord appeared to Abram again with a disturbing message. The Lord changed Abram’s name to Abraham, and he promised that ABRAHAM would be “a father of many nations.” Then the Lord God made a covenant with ABRAHAM and gave to him and his “descendants after him” the “whole land of Canaan as an everlasting possession.”

The Lord changed Sarai’s name to Sarah and said, “I will surely give you a son by her … she will be the mother of nations; kings of peoples will come from her” (Gen. 17:16). God told ABRAHAM and SARAH to name their son Isaac. Then he promised: “I will establish my covenant with him [ISAAC] as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him.” As for ISHMAEL, “He will be the father of twelve rulers, and I will make him into a great nation. BUT my covenant I will establish with ISAAC” (Gen. 17:20-21).

A meticulous record was kept of Isaac’s family tree — not so for Ishmael. The Torah bears witness to Isaac’s direct descendants who were promised the whole land of Canaan — the promised land — as an everlasting possession. Genesis 24 document’s Isaac’s supernatural connection with  and marriage to an extended family member named Rebekah, who bore twin sons named Esau (the firstborn) and Jacob — who would be given the promised birthright to the land of Canaan and the Abrahamic covenant. Later in the family history, there was bad blood between the descendants of Esau (a.k.a Edom)  and the descendants of Jacob (renamed ISRAEL), which can still be observed within the makeup of the current Middle East.

  • Ancient Israel agreed to a covenant with the Lord God after he rescued them from bondage in Egypt.

The twelve sons on Jacob (Israel) — known as the 12 tribes of Israel — were held as slaves in Egypt after Joseph died. (Read his story in Gen. 37 through 50.) The Israelites (also called Hebrews) were led out of Egypt by another direct descendant of Jacob, named Moses. (Read that documented account in Exodus 1 through 14.)

BECAUSE OF DISOBEDIENCE ISSUES, the Hebrews, were sentenced to 40 years of complete dependence on the God who had brought them out of bondage. Then, before they were allowed to enter the promised land, the Lord God laid down laws for their security and protection.

He foretold BLESSINGS if they obeyed the set laws and CURSES if they refused to obey the laws. (Read the entire covenant in Deuteronomy 28.)

The blessings included:

  1. People, livestock and crops will multiply.
  2. Bountiful rain and plenty of good food.
  3. Enemies will be defeated.
  4. Prosperity in the promised land.
  5. “You will lend to many nations but borrow from none.”
  6. “The Lord will establish you as his holy [set apart] people.”
  7. You will be a godly example to other nations.

The curses included:

  1. Confusion and rebuke in response to every action.
  2. Scorching heat, drought, blight and wasting disease.
  3. Dust and powder from the skies instead of rain.
  4. Attacks from birds of the air and beasts of the earth.
  5. “You will be unsuccessful in everything that you do.”
  6. “All the nations will ask: ‘Why has the Lord done this to the land?'”
  7. Scattering of the previously blessed population into other nations. (Happened 3 times — (1) 10 of the 12 tribes were scattered among the nations and did not return after Assyria destroyed the northern kingdom of Israel and its capitol Samaria on the 9th of Av, 722 BC; (2) The First Temple was destroyed and “Jews” (mostly from Judah and Benjamin) were taken into bondage in Babylon for 70 years on the 9th of Av, 586 BC; (3) The Second Temple — rebuilt after the Jews were allowed to return to their capitol Jerusalem — was destroyed and the Jews scattered among the nations in 70 AD. The Jews returned to part of their promised land in 1948, but their temple has not yet been rebuilt.)
  • The Jews were dispersed throughout the nations following the destruction of Jerusalem and their Second Temple UNTIL 1948, when a small percentage of them were supernaturally regathered and Israel was declared a nation once again!

AND, DID YOU KNOW?

The Pilgrims and Puritans left Europe to establish a new world where they could practice their biblical faith freely. They worked hard to build a civilization founded on biblical principles and dedicated to God’s purposes. They identified with the people of the Bible and the covenant given to the ancient Hebrews.

  • The Pilgrim’s celebration of Thanksgiving was modeled after the Old Testament Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot, in Hebrew).
  • Their first laws, established to legislate the New England colonies, were influenced by the Hebrew scriptures, and America’s first universities were established to train ministers to spread God’s Word.
  • More than one hundred years later, the first official seal of the United States was proposed, which depicted the Israelites crossing the Red Sea. It read, “Rebellion to tyrants is obedience to God.” The motto acknowledged the Lord God of the Jews as America’s ultimate king. The argument against tyranny was followed by the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the Revolutionary War and a brand new republic, which expected to reap the blessings of liberty “for all.”
  • American founders referenced the Bible more than all Enlightened authors combined.
  • As America has sought to fulfill the vision that A NATION WHOSE GOD IS THE LORD WILL BE BLESSED (Psalm 33:12), America has been blessed more than any other nation in the world!
  • “Historians have traditionally divided American Jewish immigration into three periods: Sephardic, German, and Eastern European…. The first group of Sephardic settlers arrived in New Amsterdam in 1654 from Brazil…. While the Ashkenazim outnumbered the Sephardim by 1730, the character of the American Jewish community remained Sephardic through the American Revolution. Colonial American synagogues adhered to Sephardic ritual customs and administered all aspects of Jewish religious life…. Synagogues established rules of order so that services and meetings proceeded with the proper amount of deference and decorum….German Jews began to come to America in significant numbers in the 1840s. Jews left Germany because of persecution, restrictive laws, economic hardship, and the failure of movements–widely supported by German Jews –advocating revolution and reform there. They looked to America as an antidote to these ills–a place of economic and social opportunity. Some 250,000 German-speaking Jews came to America by the outbreak of World War I…. in 1924, over 2 million Jews from Russia, Austria-Hungary, and Romania came to America. Once again, the character of American Jewry was transformed, as the Eastern Europeans became the majority…. Eastern Europeans brought with them unprecedented support for Jewish nationalism…. Large-scale Jewish immigration to the United States ended in 1924. Still, the contemporary American Jewish community remains very much a product of these founding groups.” (Source: My Jewish Learning —  http://www.myjewishlearning.com/article/jewish-immigration-to-america-three-waves/)  “… in the face of increasing legal repression and physical violence, many Jews fled Germany. Until October 1941, German policy officially encouraged Jewish emigration. Gradually, however, the Nazis sought to deprive Jews fleeing Germany of their property by levying an increasingly heavy emigration tax and by restricting the amount of money that could be transferred abroad from German banks. In January 1933 there were some 523,000 Jews in Germany.” (Source: Holocaust Encyclopedia — http://www.ushmm.org/wlc/en/article.php?ModuleId=10005468)
  • In the 20th century, the United States became the world’s most powerful nation, both militarily and economically.
