Revisiting the “Shemitah”: Financial and economic “falls”

Revisiting the “Shemitah” …

Deuteronomy 15:1-2 says: “At the end of every seven years you shall grant a release of debts. And this is the form of the release: Every creditor who has lent anything to his neighbor shall release it; he shall not require it of his neighbor or his brother, because it is called the Lord’s release [the “sabbath year” or “shemitah”].

The word shemitah is translated “the release” or “the remission.” In English, remission is defined as “the cancellation or reduction of a debt or penalty.”  The entire seventh year is known as the Year of the Shemitah and ends on Elul 29 — the Day of Remission — the day when all debt is released and wiped away. A time appointed by God for refreshing revival. The Shemitah was intended to be a blessing for the nation of Israel.

Breaking the Shemitah

However, when God’s chosen nation collectively ignored this particular command, the Lord sent messengers, called prophets, to remind them. But the people scoffed at the prophets and despised their words. Breaking the covenant with God was equivalent to rejection of God’s sovereignty, and that action set in motion far-reaching consequences. Their God sent them away from His presence into Babylon for 70 years to stress the fact that the land belongs to Him, and He WILL enforce His laws pertaining to it.

When God’s sovereignty goes unrecognized, the people and their land become cut off from the Creator. The Creator assigns purpose, and without Him people can do whatever they want. The people of Israel began sacrificing their children to foreign gods. That sin brought about the nation’s destruction. What the people refused to do would be brought on them by force. So in 586 B.C., the southern nation of Judah (the northern kingdom had already been captured by the Assyrians) was exiled, the Temple of Jerusalem was destroyed, and the prophetic words spoken by God’s messengers were fulfilled. The land rested for 70 years — the number of Shemitah years the nation had refused to observe.

At the end of 70 years, many of the “Jews” chose to return to Jerusalem and rebuild their temple, which would be destroyed again in 70 A.D., after which the Jews would be dispersed throughout the world. However, God foretold through his prophet Ezekiel that He would bring His chosen people back into their land. That prophecy was fulfilled in 1948, when Israel was once again declared a nation.

Financial and Economic Falls

The word shemitah is linked to the Hebrew verbs for  “to shake,” “to let fall,” and “to collapse.” It’s interesting to note some significant economic crashes that have happened in conjunction with the Shemitah Years:

  • The Crash of 1901-1903 (“the depression’) was brought on by the struggles of E.H. Harriman, Jacob Schiff, and J.P. Morgan over financial control of Northern Pacific Railroad. A Shemitah occurred over 1902 and 1903. By its end, 46% of the market was wiped out.
  • The “Crisis of 1916-1917” took place during World War I. One Shemitah happened over the course of the war  — between 1916 and 1917. The stock market lost 40% of its value.
  • The Crash of 1930-1932 (The Great Depression) constituted the worst economic and financial crisis in modern history involving the collapse of global trade. The Shemitah took place between 1930 and 1931. In April of 1931, the stock market began a long-term crash that would bring Wall Street to its lowest levels of the twentieth century. By the end of July 1932, 86% of the market had been wiped out.
  • The Crash of 1937-1938 (“the Recession of the Great Depression”) came just as the American stock market and economy were coming back from the depths of the Great Depression. The Shemitah began on September 6, 1937. The next day Wall Street collapsed, and by June of 1937, four million workers had lost their jobs.

THE CRASH OF 2001

Jonathan Cahn writes in The Mystery of the Shemitah

“The stock market collapse began with the “Dot-Com Crash” of 2000-2001. Then came 9/11, which would first paralyze Wall Street and then cause further deterioration. The collapse would continue into 2002. By the time it ended, more than 37% of the market had been wiped out….

“The Shemitah comes once every seven years. It just so happens that the first Shemitah of the new millennium fell in the period of 200-2001, the years of the Dot-Com Crash, a deepening recession, the attack of 9/11, and one of the greatest stock market day crashes in history.

“The events of September 11, 2001, took place in the last climactic week of the Shemitah….

On 9/11 Wall Street was shut down. It reopened on September 17, the Shemitah’s last climactic day [Elul 29 on the Hebrew calendar]. Thus it was the first day that Wall Street bore the financial impact of 9/11. The greatest stock market crash in history was the reflection of 9/11 in the financial realm.

“What had stood on the pavement at Ground Zero were not only towers but colossal symbols of economic and financial power. The Twin Towers were explicitly or implicitly, the most glaring icons of America’s financial and economic prosperity, preeminence, and sovereignty. They epitomized the American-led global economic order that had prevailed since the end of the Second World War. On 9/11 that symbol came crashing down….

“The towers had boasted of the nation’s blessings and glory. But the warning reminded the nation that all its blessings and glory came from God…. the message warned that if America ever turned away from its foundation, its glory would not endure and the blessings of heaven would be removed from the land….

The greatest financial collapse in American history up to that day took place on the very day given in the Bible to wipe away the financial accounts of the nation.”

THE CRASH OF 2008

Jonathan Cahn writes in The Harbinger Companion …

“The law of the Shemitah was given to Israel. America was never under obligation to observe a Sabbath year. But the Shemitah remains a biblical sign of judgment on a nation that has driven God out of its life and replaced Him with idols and the ceaseless pursuit of gain. Thus, it is the Shemitah as a biblical sign of national judgment in the context of America that now concerns us….

“Behind the crash of Wall Street and the collapse of the American economy lies the mystery of the Shemitah…. In 2008 the collapse of Lehman Brothers and America’s economy took place over the course of a week, the anniversary week of 9/11.… Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac collapsed on September 7 of that year. Two days later Lehman Brothers began to fall, and on September 11, 2008, the stock market took a precipitous plunge.

“The 2008 global economic collapse was one colossal Shemitah, made up of countless smaller ones….

The Shemitah revolves around the number seven. So the number seven arises over and over again concerning the economic collapse of 2008. The great collapse happened on the crowning day of the seventh year. It was triggered on Capital Hill when Congress rejected a $700 billion bailout plan. Seven percent of the market was wiped out. And the number of points wiped away was 777 (Alexandra Twin, “Stocks Crushed,” CNNMoney.com, September 29, 2008). In order to trigger all of these “sevens,” all of Wall Street, the American and world economies, every economic and financial transaction, had to be in an exact position for it all to happen as it did, at the exact time and to that exact number. No human hand could have orchestrated it.”

 THE SHEMITAH OF 2014-15 …

A lot happened during the Hebrew year of 5774 — 2014-2015 — but there was not another notable stock market crash, as in 2001 and 2008. You can search the web for articles and blogs that itemize events that seemed important to various individuals. The most notable, perhaps, was the blood moons that occurred on Jewish feast days — seen by many as omens of judgment.

I’m not going to belabor all of that. However, I do feel it’s important to go into detail concerning the biblical 70th Jubilee year, which began on September 13, 2015 and will end tomorrow — October 2, 2016.

Next: The 70th Jubilee year comes to a close!

The shaking yet to come …

THE SHEMITAH THAT WAS AND THE SHAKING TO COME

WND Exclusive: Jonathan Cahn explains key manifestations that have marked 2015

September 24, 2015

By Rabbi Jonathan Cahn

I believe it important to give an update.

I have given warning concerning judgment. I have said that I believe America is rapidly advancing toward calamity – that we have crossed the line in our apostasy and defiance of God. I’ve warned that if America continues in its present course, if there’s no return to God, its crown as head of nations will be removed and that I believe a great shaking is coming to this nation and the world.

As for when these things are to take place, I have from the beginning always issued a strong caution, in spoken word and in writing, from “The Mystery of the Shemitah” itself onward – specifically that we cannot be dogmatic about timing, and that nothing has to take place on a particular date or season, or according to any set calendar, or even as God has done before.

I have ministered that it is wise to be aware of the signs and seasons of the times, and that though such things can take place on biblically relevant times or dates, but again, that nothing has to happen on any particular date, whether within the parameters of the Shemitah or in its wake, and that our focus must be not dates but God and getting right with Him.

At the same time, we remain in a dangerous period – and one of the reasons I’ve always cautioned regarding dates is that I never wanted such focus to obscure or minimize the larger picture: that regardless of what does or does not happen a particular date, America is racing toward judgment.

In “The Mystery of the Shemitah,” I share of biblical patterns which, at times, have had stunningly precise manifestations. Each of the last two Shemitahs has climaxed with the greatest stock market point crashes in history on the same exact biblical day – a once in seven years day that happens to be appointed in the Bible for the effecting of financial remission and nullification. It remains a stunningly and eerily precise historical reality.

And precisely because it is so precise and because it happened in the last two of the Shemitah’s cycles, many saw it as an absolute that a massive stock market day crash had to take place on the next such day, Sept. 13. Thus we have cautioned repeatedly that this particular manifestation and any particular manifestation does not have to occur in every or any one of the Shemitah’s cycles.

At the same time, having said and having said again all these things, there are a number of very large and significant facts to be noted:

The Shemitah of 2015 has, in fact, followed the most predominant of the Shemitah’s templates.

What was missed by most in focusing on only one day, was that the largest and most prevalent of the Shemitah’s templates has, in fact, manifested. The Elul 29 day crash is only one of several manifestations, an exception and minority template. In each of the last seven of the Shemitahs there has been a collapse – but only two of those seven collapses have involved an Elul 29 day crash. The majority have taken place according to a much larger template.

The larger and, by far, the predominant of the Shemitah’s templates is that of a long-term collapse, a collapse taking place over the course of several months, or one in which a rising stock market comes to an end, peaks within the Shemitah year, reverses its momentum and begins a continuous descent. This descent may, at times, involve increasing volatility and dramatic day crashes, particularly in proximity to the Shemitah climax. And this is exactly what occurred in the Shemitah of 2015.

The 2015 Shemitah has followed this larger and predominant of the Shemitah’s templates, a template that appears repeatedly in the book.

Following the Shemitah’s pattern:

  • The Shemitah of 2015 ended a rising stock market on May 19, a market that then reversed its overall momentum and began a long-term descent for the rest of the Shemitah year.
  • As it approached its final phase, the stock market and its descent grew increasingly and dramatically volatile.
  • Nearing its conclusion in late August, the Shemitah produced some of the most dramatic days in stock market history – most notably what would be called “Black Monday” – and which would trigger the collapse of stock markets throughout the world.
  • The Shemitah of 2015 produced the greatest stock market intraday collapse in world history, a crash of over 1,000 points.
  • It would usher in the dramatic financial collapse of the world’s new economic engine – China.
  • The collapse of China’s financial realm alone constituted one of the greatest long-term stock market crashes in history and, by itself, would make 2015 one of the most significant of Shemitahs.
  • The amount wiped out from the Shanghai Exchange, in the space of just a few months, was over 40 percent.
  • The amount wiped out by the Shemitah of 2015, from the U.S. market, from its peak to Elul 29, would approach $2 trillion!
  • The amount wiped out from international markets in the same period would exceed $5 trillion!

In many of the Shemitah years, the turbulence and collapse continue and may intensify past Elul 29, into the period of the Shemitah’s wake. In others, they do not. But whatever happens from this point forward, the Shemitah has already and again powerfully manifested.

Other key manifestations that have marked 2015 as an especially significant Shemitah year:

  • “The Mystery of the Shemitah” chronicles how the Shemitah has marked the shifting of world power. So it was again. The American Age began in 1871, when it became the strongest economic power on earth. Within the parameters of the Shemitah of 2015, that era has officially come to its end.
  • The Shemitah of 1973 became a milestone in America’s moral and spiritual collapse as the Supreme Court legalized the killing of the unborn. The Shemitah of 2015 was no less a milestone in this fall – as it was the year that the nation’s hedges protecting the biblical definition of marriage collapsed across the land, and were then, by the Supreme Court, conclusively struck down.

I have said that I believe it wisdom to be prepared and that regardless of what happens or not, it is always wise to have essentials on hand – and yet each needs to be led by the Lord in such things. For you who have done so, I believe you’ve been wise, and are prepared and better off than you would have been otherwise. Regardless of what the future holds, it is a wise insurance that can always be used. And of course the most important preparation one can do is to be right with God.

I have said and repeat now that we stand as a nation in danger of judgment. The Shemitah is one template by which judgment may be manifested. Whether or not what is yet to come will be joined to what has happened in the most recent Shemitah, I believe that this nation is in and approaches days both critical and perilous. I see ahead, apart from the hand of God, days of apostasy and persecution, and, by the hand of God, a great shaking.

At the same time, God’s heart is salvation. And the purpose of shaking is to bring to repentance, salvation and revival those who will come. At this point I believe it is only through shaking that a true and great revival can come.

For you who would seek safety, the word for safety in Hebrew is Yeshua. And Yeshua is the name of Jesus. Thus the only way to be safe is to be in Jesus, Yeshua. As for you who are in Yeshua, the safest place to be is the will of God. Make sure that’s where you are.

Know that in all things, God remains absolutely on the throne. And the one who lives in His will, lives and stands on the winning side. Now is not the time to be silent, fearful, or compromised, but to be all the more strong and all the more bold. When the night comes and the dark grows even darker, it is then time for the lights of God to shine even more brightly. Be strong and of good courage. Proclaim the good news of Messiah. And pray for revival but don’t only pray for revival – live in revival.

And as the apostasy progresses, as America races to judgment, as the biblical signs, principles and harbingers of judgment continue to manifest, and as the events of the last days continue to unfold, I will, and we must, continue to sound the trumpet and the alarm, to call to repentance those who will come, and to draw the lost to Messiah Jesus, Yeshua, who remains the same yesterday, today and forever and who is the only answer, the only way and the only hope America has and all have to be saved.

As I shared with family and friends the possibility of the Shemitah of 2015 manifesting on the last day of the seventh year of the cycle, I explained that I felt like Jonah. He was the prophet who was instructed to go into Ninevah and warn of God’s impending destruction of the city UNLESS the people chose to repent of their wicked behaviors and make changes according to God’s words of instruction.

After Jonah gave the required message to that rowdy bunch, he went up to a hilltop where he could watch the destruction that God had promised to bring upon the city. HOWEVER, the people did repent, led by their king! And God did not bring about the destruction that He had sent Jonah to warn about.

This article by the “Jonah” of our time, Jonathan Cahn, helps put into perspective what is happening now in America and the world. The residents of Ninevah eventually returned to their wicked ways, and God DID destroy the city as He had vowed to do.

May we who have been warned now stay on a steady course of repentance and obedience so that we will not be subject to the same fate as those who inhabited Ninevah.

The 2014 – 2015 Shemitah ends today!

On September 25, 2014, I posted information regarding the beginning of the Shemitah year. In case you missed it …

On Wednesday, September 24, 2014, a phenomenon that has been happening every 7 years for over 3,000 years will begin again at sundown. It’s called the Sabbath Year or “Shemitah.”

The word shemitah is linked to the Hebrew verbs for  “to shake,” “to let fall,” “to cast down,” and “to collapse.” It’s interesting to note some significant economic crashes that have happened in conjunction with the Shemitah Years:

  • The Crash of 2000-2001 (the “Dot-Com Crash” and 9/11) happened during the first Shemitah of the new millennium. By its end, 37% of the stock market had been wiped out.
  • The Crash of 2007-2008 (“the Global Financial Crisis”) was the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. The crash reached its greatest intensity in September 2008 — the final month of the seventh-year Shemitah.

The Mystery of Cycles

There have been five major turning points and collapses in the stock market over the past 40 years:

  • The first took place in 1973. The second took place in 1980A cycle of seven years.
  • The third took place in 1987. A cycle of seven years from 1980 to 1987.
  • The fourth took place in 2000. The fifth took place in 2008A cycle of seven years from 200 to 2008.

The Shemitah began tonight at sundown and will finish in September of 2015.

———————————————

Nearly a year has passed …

Because today is a Sunday, banks and the New York Stock Exchange are closed. We likely won’t see much happening in the financial realm. But you can bet that lots is happening in the spiritual realm as the Lord God and his angels are preparing to begin THE 2015 – 2016 JUBILEE, which begins TOMORROW, September 14th (Tishri 1 on the Hebrew calendar)!

The Jubilee year comes once every 50 years following a seventh shemitah cycle — a total of 49 years. In short, it is a “super shemitah” regarding the descendants of Jacob (also known as ISREAL). After their deliverance from slavery in Egypt, the Lord God commanded the Israelites to observe the Jubilee year by returning to the land that was given to their individual tribe when their ancestors entered the Promised Land. They were to “let go” of any property that they had acquired in the 49 preceding years. EVERYONE was required to submit to God and to each other, give up the land they possessed and return to their “roots.”

It is a time for remembrance. A year of looking back and recognizing all the the Lord God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob has done for his chosen people over thousands of years … and what he continues to do for them today!

AMERICA’S DAY OF RECKONING JUST 60 DAYS AWAY?

Ancient biblical cycle now 2 months from climax

PrayerCahn

Two months from now the biblical Shemitah year will have played out and only then will we know whether it has left any significant event in its wake.

In the past, this seven-year cycle has brought collapsing stock markets, tumbling currencies and the shaking of nations and empires.

This period of early autumn was the most crucial time on the biblical calendar for the ancient Israelites, with the end of the seven-year cycle described in Deuteronomy as the Shemitah or Sabbath year. All farmland was to be left in a state of rest and the people were to focus on God and His will for their nation and their lives.

This year on Sept. 13, the Shemitah reaches its peak on the last day on the Hebrew calendar, Elul 29, known as the “day of nullification.” All debt and credit were to be wiped away on this day as described by author Jonathan Cahn in his New York-Times bestseller, “The Mystery of the Shemitah,” published in September 2014.

mystery_shemitahBut the Shemitah can be a game-changer not only for economies and stock markets but also in geopolitics.

Are America’s days as world leader numbered?

There is no arguing the fact that the United States of America has been the most powerful “empire” on earth since the end of World War II. Its corporations have been the engine that drives the global economy and its politicians have set the tone for the world order. It’s no coincidence the United Nations is based in New York City, the seat of global financial power.

But even as the nation’s economy flounders and it has gone from the world’s largest creditor to the world’s largest debtor, American culture has also drifted farther and farther from God. Some believe it has drifted beyond the point of return, into full-blown rebellion, with the June 26 landmark Supreme Court decision on marriage being only the latest symptom of a nation that has come unhinged from its foundational belief system.  Obergefell v. Hodges was the biggest shock to Judeo-Christian moral sensibilities since Roe v. Wade in 1973. Both decisions came down in Shemitah years.

In the oft-quoted words of American political philosopher F.P. Dunne, “the Supreme Court follows the election returns.” If that’s true, such monumental shifts in the court’s rulings should not be viewed in a bubble. The five justices who decided to radically alter the legal definition of marriage could not have ruled that way unless they felt the majority of Americans were ready to accept their decision, if not totally agree with it. Thus far it does not appear that they miscalculated. The overwhelming majority of county clerks are issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples and those who have refused are being replaced by more obedient bureaucrats.

The 20th century’s greatest Christian thinkers, men like Alexander Solzhenitsyn and Francis Schaeffer, believed that a civilization could not continue indefinitely apart from the will of God. Soviet communism fell, Nazi Germany fell, the British Empire disintegrated. And many scholars see the whole of Western civilization as in decline now that it has rejected the very Christianity that made it great. It has succumbed to the pressures that have warred against it from the beginning.

Shemitah shakes empires

One of the chapters in Cahn’s book “The Rise and Fall of Nations” shows how the ancient Shemitah mystery is linked to massive changes of world history – world wars, the rise and fall of nations and empires.

Global problems in our day seem to be spinning out of control. Lawlessness is on the rise. The current order in the Middle East, in place since the end of World War I, has been turned on its head.

“What we are watching now is a massive destabilization throughout the world – from ISIS, to the war in Syria, to the collapse of Greece, the collapse of the Chinese stock market, the destabilizing of the European Union, the issue of nuclear weapons and Iran, the moral and spiritual transformation of America, the deterioration of relations between America and Israel, and more,” Cahn told WND.

In the financial realm, the markets have been expanding since 2009. Cahn believes the Shemitah, if it follows its pattern of the past two seven-year cycles, will bring a shaking in the financial realm first.

“And just now as we approach the climactic last part of the Shemitah, we see the sudden destabilization of the global financial realm,” said Cahn, who authored “The Harbinger,” which became a New York-Times bestseller in 2009.

“Added to this, the Greek crisis specifically deals with issues of debt and debt relief – the central issue of the Shemitah,” he added. “Whether or not the crisis finds a resolution, the very fact that such sudden destabilization of the global financial realm has taken place, and having to do with the issue of debt and credit and the issue of relief, just as the Shemitah nears its climactic period, warrants our attention. And as the Shemitah deals with the wiping out of financial accounts, we now witness China’s financial (stock market) losing 30 percent of its value in less than a month, is more than striking.”

States falling into line even before court’s edict

But it will not stop with the financial realm.

“The Shemitah also can mean ‘the fall.’ And we are watching the greatest, most rapid moral and spiritual fall in American history,” Cahn said. “In the year of the Shemitah, the number of states that struck down the biblical definition of marriage went from a small minority, in the teens, to the majority, and then at the end of June, came one of the most momentous decisions in American judicial history – and history itself – the striking down of the biblical and historic definition of marriage.

“This is a pivotal event with colossal ramifications, and one that draws America one step closer to judgment.”

When Obergefell v. Hodges was being argued before the Supreme Court in March, Cahn said he saw a woman holding a sign that read “Don’t Cross this Line.” He stopped and prayed with her.

Holy matrimony was the first covenant between God and man in the Garden of Eden, when God gave Eve to Adam and the two, male and female, were to become “one flesh” with God as their witness. In the New Testament, marriage is further revealed as a type, a foreshadow, of the relationship between God and his Church, which is called the “Bride of Christ.”

Now man has taken what is holy before God, the marriage covenant, and redefined it in a way that appears right to man in his humanistic way of thinking devoid of the Holy Spirit’s guidance. A line has been crossed, Cahn said, and so the only prayer left to pray is one for repentance and mercy.

America is heading for judgment. Whether that judgment entails a stock market collapse, a collapse of the dollar, or something further down the road that is even worse, Cahn is also praying that the individual Christians that make up the body of Christ in America will get right with God and repent of their sins.

For judgment always starts “in the house of the Lord.”

The Shemitah: Will 2015 be a significant turning point for Israel?

2015: A Significant Turning Point for Israel

2/2/2015 ASHER INTRATER

Auschwitz Nazi death camp in Poland
Auschwitz Nazi death camp in Poland (Wikimedia Commons)

Emphasis added … This year 2014-2015 represents a significant turning point, and as noted by many, a Shemitah year in the Jewish calendar. This week marks the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz death camp in southwest Poland, near Krakow. An estimated 1.1 million Jews between 1942 and 1945 were murdered by the Nazis there (including several of my grandfather’s family). On Jan. 27, the Soviets entered Auschwitz and freed the 7,000 remaining prisoners, all starving and freezing. Not only was Auschwitz liberated but also World War II as a whole came to an end, including the fighting in the Middle East and in the Pacific Rim. This is the end of an important 70-year period for Japan and the surrounding countries there as well. Seventy years is described in the Scriptures as a period to fulfill historic prophecies and punishments (Jer. 25:11, Dan. 9:24). The 70-year period is related to the concept of “visiting the sins of the parents” (Ex. 20:5) and a 70-year life-span (Ps. 90:10). Seventy years more or less completes the cycle of one generation giving birth to the next, and the first generation passing away. Today the last witnesses of the WWII period are dying off. The current generation has little emotional connection to what happened then. Since the end of WWII there has been a certain transfer of the “vision” to exterminate the Jews from the Nazis to what has become radical Islam today. This year, 2014-2015 has seen the declaration of ISIS, an Islamic State. This is a major development in the Islamic worldview. All the terrorist groups, from Hamas to Hezbollah to Al-Qaida, were looking forward to the renewal of a Caliphate (worldwide Islamic empire), but did not see themselves as that empire. ISIS is declaring that the Caliphate nation has begun. Europe and the United Nations seem to have little understanding of the danger at hand. At this time, 70 years after the Holocaust, it is only the nation of Israel that speaks clearly of the threat of Islamic Jihad in our generation, and only representatives from Israel who quote from the Bible in the General Assembly of the U.N. During the same period, we have seen major developments in the body of Christ. The largest number of believing Christians is to be found in Asia today, not in the West. The rise of the church of Asia is a paradigm shift of dimensions not seen in almost 2,000 years. In addition, the Messianic remnant in the restored nation of Israel is slowly and surely developing and maturing. This spiritual restoration of Israel is also a paradigm shift of prophetic importance not seen since the first century. “Therefore, since through God’s mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart. Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God.

“On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God.  And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

“For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.

“But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. “We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that his life may also be revealed in our mortal body.” (2 Corinthians 4:1-11, NIV) Keep watching …

The 2014-2015 Year of the Shemitah BEGINS …

On Wednesday, September 24, 2014, a phenomenon that has been happening every 7 years for over 3,000 years will begin again at sundown. It’s called the Sabbath Year or “Shemitah.”

The word shemitah is linked to the Hebrew verbs for  “to shake,” “to let fall,” “to cast down,” and “to collapse.” It’s interesting to note some significant economic crashes that have happened in conjunction with the Shemitah Years:

The coming “Shemitah” …

I’ve been trying to figure out how to “shrink” and share the amazing information I’ve been reading in Rabbi Jonathan Cahn’s new book, “The Mystery of the Shemitah: The 3,000-Year-Old Mystery That Holds the Secret of America’s Future, the World’s Future, and Your Future!” As you can tell by the length of the title, this book is packed with amazing, supernatural FACTS that are blowing my mind (I’m still reading …)!

Now I’ve discovered an article in Prophecy News Watch that has done it for me. It’s lengthy, so I’ve highlighted some of the most interesting information. I hope you will buy the book, available on Amazon at a discount! Decide for yourself after you have read all the historical facts!

The Seven Year Cycle Of Economic Crashes & The Coming Shemitah Year

by Michael Snyder

September 8, 2014

Large numbers of people believe that an economic crash is coming next year based on a seven year cycle of economic crashes that goes all the way back to the Great Depression. [This is known as the Shemitah. — PY] What I am about to share with you is very controversial. Some of you will love it, and some of you will think that it is utter rubbish. I will just present this information and let you decide for yourself what you want to think about it.

In my previous article entitled “If Economic Cycle Theorists Are Correct, 2015 To 2020 Will Be Pure Hell For The United States”, I discussed many of the economic cycle theories that all seem to agree that we are on the verge of a major economic downturn in this country. But there is an economic cycle that I did not mention in that article that a lot of people are talking about right now. And if this cycle holds up once again in 2015, it will be really bad news for the U.S. economy.

Looking back, the most recent financial crisis that we experienced was back in 2008. Lehman Brothers collapsed, the stock market crashed and we were plunged into the worst recession that we have experienced as a nation since the Great Depression.

Prior to that, the last time that the stock market experienced a major decline of that nature was during the bursting of the dotcom bubble seven years earlier. 2001 was a year of recession for the U.S. economy and of big trouble for stocks.

And oh year, a little event known as “9/11” happened that year.

Seven years before that, in 1994, investors experienced the worst bond market of their lifetimes.

The following is how Reuters recalls the carnage…

The 1994 bond market massacre is remembered with horror by those who lived through it. Yields on 30-year Treasuries jumped some 200 basis points in the first nine months of the year, hammering investors and financial firms, not to mention thrusting Mexico into crisis and bankrupting Orange County.

Going back another seven years brings us to 1987.

Anyone that lived through that era remembers “Black Monday” and the horrible stock market crash very well.

The next major economic crash prior to 1987 was in the early 1980s.

In 1980, the S&L crisis was blooming and everyone was talking about the “stagflation” that we were experiencing under Jimmy Carter. The Federal Reserve raised interest rates dramatically to combat inflation, and this helped precipitate the very deep recession that we experienced early in Ronald Reagan’s first term.

Seven years prior to 1980 brings us to 1973. To many young Americans, that year does not have any significance, but older Americans remember the Arab oil embargo and the super long lines at the gas pumps really well.

In addition, a recession began in 1973 which ended up stretching all the way until 1975.

And those that have studied these things say that the pattern keeps going back all the way to the Great Depression. Many correctly point out that the stock market crash which began the Great Depression was in 1929, but actually the worst year for the stock market during the Great Depression was in 1931. And 1931 fits perfectly into the cycle.

So we have this pattern of economic crashes occurring approximately every seven years.

But there is an additional element to this cycle which makes it even more extraordinary.

As Jonathan Cahn has pointed out, this seven year cycle also lines up with the seven year “Shemitah cycle” that we find in the Bible.

For those not familiar with it, during the Shemitah year the people of Israel were commanded to let their land rest for a full year. It was also supposed to be a time of releasing of debts.

But for the most part the people of Israel did not observe the Shemitah year, and in the Bible that is mentioned as one of the reasons why they were exiled to Babylon for seventy years [Beginning in 586 B.C.].

The Shemitah year always begins in the fall, and the upcoming Shemitah year is going to start about a month from now.

Will we see things happen during this Shemitah year that are similar to things that we have seen in past Shemitah years?

For example, on September 17th, 2001 we witnessed the greatest one day stock market crash in U.S. history up until that time. It happened on the 29th of Elul on the Jewish calendar, which is the day right before Rosh Hashanah.

That record stood for seven years until the massive stock market crash of September 29, 2008. That date also corresponded with the 29th of Elul on the Jewish Calendar – the day right before Rosh HashanahWill the pattern hold up in 2015?

Well, the 29th of Elul falls on a Sunday in 2015, so the stock market will be closed. But it is very interesting to note that there will be a solar eclipse on that day.

And as Jonathan Cahn recently told WND, similar solar eclipses in the past have preceded major financial disasters…

In 1931, a solar eclipse took place on Sept. 12 – the end of a “Shemitah” year. Eight days later, England abandoned the gold standard, setting off market crashes and bank failures around the world. It also ushered in the greatest monthlong stock market percentage crash in Wall Street history.

In 1987, a solar eclipse took place Sept. 23 – again the end of a “Shemitah” year. Less than 30 days later came “Black Monday” the greatest percentage crash in Wall Street history.

Is Cahn predicting doom and gloom on Sept. 13, 2015? He’s careful to avoid a prediction, saying, “In the past, this ushered in the worst collapses in Wall Street history. What will it bring this time? Again, as before, the phenomenon does not have to manifest at the next convergence. But, at the same time, and again, it is wise to take note.”

So what should we make of all of this?

I am sure that some of you will dismiss this as pure coincidence and speculation.

Others will find it utterly fascinating.

But one thing is for sure – people are going to be talking about this seven year cycle all over the Internet. [I hope so! — PY]
