What exactly do you understand by the term ANTICHRIST???

I recently received the following question from a reader named “Leo” …

What exactly do you understand by the term ANTICHRIST???

We are forgetting about the thousands of antichrists that are living among us right now. The Bible mentions both, THE antichrist and the antichrists, right?

The point is, when, none of us can deal with any of these numerous antichrists (all having Elite and/or Celebrity and/or ruling status) throughout the world, what the hell can we common people do to that so-called, THE Antichrist? 😦

Don’t know why, but sometimes I feel, that majority (90%) of us are following Matthew 15:8-9 in our practical lives!

Matthew 15:8-9 (Complete Jewish Bible) reads, “‘‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far away from me.  Their worship of me is useless, because they teach man-made rules as if they were doctrines.’” (Isaiah 29:13)

Here is my reply to Leo …

I see what you’re getting at, Leo. You probably already know this but (I believe) THE antichrist described in Revelation 13 as “the first beast” who will “come up out of the sea,” will be recognized by the details Jesus gave in Matthew 24 when he referred to Daniel’s prophecy concerning the one who will desecrate the Jewish temple — which must be rebuilt for that to happen.

From The Complete Jewish Bible translation: [Jesus speaking] 15“So when you see the abomination that causes devastation spoken about through the prophet Dani’el standing in the Holy Place” [Daniel 9:27] (let the reader understand the allusion), “that will be the time for those in Y’hudah to escape to the hills…. 21 For there will be trouble then worse than there has ever been from the beginning of the world until now, and there will be nothing like it again! 22 Indeed, if the length of this time had not been limited, no one would survive; but for the sake of those who have been chosen, its length will be limited.”

At that time, not only will there be many “antichrists”, but many false Messiahs as well …

23 “At that time, if someone says to you, ‘Look! Here’s the Messiah!’ or, ‘There he is!’ don’t believe him. 24 For there will appear false Messiahs and false prophets performing great miracles — amazing things! — so as to fool even the chosen, if possible. 25 There! I have told you in advance! 26 So if people say to you, ‘Listen! He’s out in the desert!’ don’t go; or, ‘Look! He’s hidden away in a secret room!’ don’t believe it. 27 For when the Son of Man does come, it will be like lightning that flashes out of the east and fills the sky to the western horizon. 28 Wherever there’s a dead body, that’s where you find the vultures.

But a sign of hope will appear in the sky …

29 “But immediately following the trouble of those times,

the sun will grow dark,
the moon will stop shining,
the stars will fall from the sky,
and the powers in heaven will be shaken.

30 “Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, all the tribes of the Land will mourn,[e] and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with tremendous power and glory.[f] 31 He will send out his angels with a great shofar;[g] and they will gather together his chosen people from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.”

In my humble opinion, though individuals and various ministry groups keep trying to point out things that THEY identify as fulfillment of prophecy, Jesus detailed specific signs that have not yet come to pass. In my mind, the key to watch for is found in Revelation 13:7-8 and 15-17…

7 “ … it [the first beast / THE antichrist] was allowed to make war on God’s holy people and to defeat them; and it was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation. 8 Everyone living on earth will worship it except those whose names are written in the Book of Life belonging to the Lamb slaughtered before the world was founded….

15 “It [the second beast coming up from the earth] was allowed to put breath into the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast could even speak; and it was allowed to cause anyone who would not worship the image of the beast to be put to death. 16 Also it forces everyone — great and small, rich and poor, free and slave — to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead 17 preventing anyone from buying or selling unless he has the mark, that is, the name of the beast or the number of its name.”

In response to your question “What can common people do to THE antichrist?” We may not like the answer, but I believe God gives it clearly in Revelation 13:10 …

“If anyone is meant for captivity,
into captivity he goes!
If anyone is to be killed with the sword,
with the sword he is to be killed!”

“This is when God’s holy people must persevere and trust!”

The days ahead of us are going to get increasingly more difficult, according to the Son of God. I sincerely appreciate the efforts of those folks who are coming on board to watch with me for (1) the rebuilding of the Temple and (2) the global authority who will eventually be given control over the world’s population; I believe the greatest thing we can DO is to plant seeds among believers that it’s foolish to long for a pre-tribulation rapture. I fully accept the fact that I may have to die for taking a stand against the evil powers that are engulfing our world. And I pray every day that my God will give me the strength and courage I will most definitely need to face that threat when it arrives on my doorstep.

Take heart, brother in Christ, for He has overcome the world already. I can only dream of what eternal life will be like in His Presence!
