Over one year ago, THE GUARDIAN published an article online titled, “1 In 4 Believe Obama May Be Antichrist — Stunning Poll Results Reveal Pulse Of The Nation.” I’ll share that article at the end of this post, but first let’s look at what Scripture has to say about what we are to watch for in terms of characteristics of “the man of lawlessness” and “the first beast” (a.k.a. “THE antichrist”). The reason this is important: The article is NOW being reintroduced onto the Internet via Red Flag Alerts!
Here’s what the apostle Paul wrote about the Man of Lawlessness (emphasis is mine) …
“Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers and sisters, not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by the teaching allegedly from us—whether by a prophecy or by word of mouth or by letter—asserting that the day of the Lord has already come. Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God.
“Don’t you remember that when I was with you I used to tell you these things? And now you know what is holding him back, so that he may be revealed at the proper time. For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming. The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie, and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.” (2 Thessalonians 2:1-11, New International Version 2011)
(As always, I urge my readers to look up the passages I share in whatever translation of the Bible you prefer, and check out the meanings of specific words in Strong’s Concordance.)
Notice in verse 4 that this man WILL SET HIMSELF UP IN GOD’S TEMPLE. Now consider what the prophet Daniel foretold …
“The end will come like a flood: War will continue until the end, and desolationshave been decreed. He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven.’ In the middle of the ‘seven’ he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And at the temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him.” (Daniel 9:26-27, NIV, 2011)
When we cross-reference these two passages, it appears that Paul is referring to Daniel’s prophecy. Now let’s add what Jesus said about Daniel’s prophecy …
“At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
“So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’ spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand— then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains…. For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again. If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened.” (Matthew 24:10-22, NIV 2011).
JESUS SAID “the abomination that causes desolation” SPOKEN OF THROUGH THE PROPHET DANIEL will be set up “in the holy place.” DANIEL SAID “the abomination that causes desolation” will be set up ” at the temple.” PAUL SAID the man of lawlessness will set himself up “in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God.”
THE COMMON DENOMINATOR (the prophecy connection) is the fact that “the holy place” — “God’s temple” — will be the location where the most despicable act in all of human history will take place!

Now let’s look at what the apostle and prophet JOHN saw concerning the one that he called “a beast coming out of the sea” …
” And I saw a beast coming out of the sea….
“People worshiped the dragon [Satan] because he had given authority to the beast, and they also worshiped the beast and asked, ‘Who is like the beast? Who can wage war against it?’ [Some translations say “him” instead of “it.”]
“The beast was given a mouth to utter proud words and blasphemies and to exercise its authority for forty-two months. It opened its mouth to blaspheme God, and to slander his name and his dwelling place and those who live in heaven. It was given power to wage war against God’s holy people and to conquer them. And it was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation. All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast—all whose names have not been written in the Lamb’s book of life, the Lamb who was slain from the creation of the world.” (Revelation 13:1-8, NIV 2011)
Notice that in speaking of the first beast, John did not mention the temple or the abomination. Instead, beginning with verse 11, he introduces “a second beast” that comes “out of the earth.” THE SECOND BEAST HAS AS MUCH — OR MORE — POWER AS THE FIRST BEAST. Here is what this man WILL DO …
“Because of the signs it [the second beast] was given power to perform on behalf of the first beast, it deceived the inhabitants of the earth. It ordered them TO SET UP AN IMAGE in honor of the beast who was wounded by the sword and yet lived. The second beast was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that THE IMAGE could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed. It also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads, so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name.”
“This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. That number is 666.” (Revelation 13:14-18, NIV 2011)
CONNECTING THE DOTS …
If this talking image is the abomination that causes desolation spoken of by Daniel and Jesus, then we can be sure that IT WILL BE SET UP IN THE HOLY PLACE, THE TEMPLE, placing the first beast above the Lord God in authority over God’s people, the descendants of Jacob AND those who have been grafted into the family through the blood of Jesus Christ (see Romans 11).
NOTICE THIS …
1. THE SECOND BEAST is the one who performs the action of abomination by placing the image in the temple and desecrating the holy place.
2. THE SECOND BEAST will be GIVEN POWER to command that everyone who DOES NOT WORSHIP the image set up in the temple MUST DIE.
3. THE SECOND BEAST is also called “THE FALSE PROPHET” in Revelation 19:20 and Revelation 20:10.
4. [Most important] GOD’S TEMPLE — THE HOLY PLACE for sacrifice and offering before Jesus’ death and resurrection — WAS DESTROYED IN 70 A.D. AND HAS NOT YET BEEN REBUILT!
We can surmise from this information that THE TEMPLE MUST BE REBUILT BEFORE THE RETURN OF JESUS CHRIST! The end times prophecies given in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 and Revelation 7:9-17 WILL NOT BE FULFILLED UNTIL the third temple is raised on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.
Question: At the time of this poll, how many of the people who participated knew these scriptural FACTS about “the Antichrist”?
One in four Americans think Obama may be the antichrist, survey says
About one in four Americans suspect that President Barack Obamamight be the antichrist, more than a third believe that global warming is a hoax and more than half suspect that a secretive global elite is trying to set up a New World Order, according to a poll released on Tuesday.
The survey, which was conducted by Public Policy Polling, asked a sample of American voters about a number of conspiracy theories, phrasing the questions in eye-catching language that will have the country’s educators banging their heads on their desks. The study revealed that 13% of respondents thought Obama was “the antichrist”, while another 13% were “not sure” – and so were at least appeared to be open to the possibility that he might be. Some 73% of people were able to say outright that they did not think Obama was “the antichrist”.
The survey also showed that 37% of Americans thought that global warming was a hoax, while 12% were not sure and a slim majority – 51% – agreed with the overwhelming majority view of the scientific establishment and thought that it was not. The survey also revealed that 28% of people believed in a sinister global New World Order conspiracy, aimed at ruling the whole world through authoritarian government. Another 25% were “not sure” and only a minority of American voters – 46% – thought such a conspiracy theory was not true.
At least some of the insane theories suggested by the poll were dismissed by large majorities. For example, only 7% of Americans in the survey believed the moon landing was faked, 14% believed in Bigfoot and 4% accepted that “shape-shifting alien reptilian people control our world by taking on human form”. In other good news, Paul McCartney will be relieved that a mere 5% of respondents believed that he died in a car crash in 1966 and was replaced by a double so the Beatles could continue their careers, and just 11% embraced the concept that the US government knowingly allowed the terror attacks of 11 September 2001 to take place.
The survey was carried out in order to explore how voters’ political beliefs impact on their willingness to embrace conspiracy theories – it did indeed find that the partisan divide that is blamed for many problems in Washington DC also extends to the world of paranoia, aliens and Sasquatch. For example, when it comes to thinking global warming is a hoax some 58% of Republicans agreed and 77% of Democratsdisagreed. While 20% of Republicans believed Obama is the antichrist heralding the End Times, only 13% of independents did and just 6% of Democrats.
“Even crazy conspiracy theories are subject to partisan polarization, especially when there are political overtones involved. But most Americans reject the wackier ideas out there about fake moon landings and shape-shifting lizards,” said PPP president Dean Debnam.
This poll was taken over one year ago.
Question: How many of the people who participated in this poll knew about the prophecy connections given by Daniel, Jesus, Paul and John?
* * *
“Whoever has ears, let them hear.
‘If anyone is to go into captivity,
into captivity they will go.
If anyone is to be killed with the sword,
with the sword they will be killed.’
“This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness
on the part of God’s people.”
